Step 1
Place candles on coffee tables, television stands, desks and virtually any other bare surface in your home. Place them atop dressers where they will reflect nicely in mirrors when lit, and place them in the center of kitchen tables as centerpieces. One creative idea is to cluster plants from the season around candles on a kitchen table. For instance, in Autumn you could place a pillar candle on a mirrored glass tray and surround the candle with pine cones and pine greenery.
Step 2
Construct shelves upon which to place candles in order to enhance your walls and lead the eye upwards. If you have bare walls that seem to be missing something, hang a couple of shelves of various designs and sizes on them. Create an assortment of candles, tiny mirrors, reed diffusers, statuettes and stand-up pictures upon the shelves. Ensure that the shelves are mounted securely, though, so that your candles don't fall from them, especially while they're lit.
Step 3
Hang candle wall sconces. Wall sconces instantly add an elegant touch to your home. They, too, will also enhance your walls like shelves. A variety of candle wall sconces exist in numerous styles, fit to match any interior design theme. Symmetrical candle wall sconces on either side of a doorway or mirror add a romantic touch to your home, especially in the evening when they're lit.
Step 4
Use candle lamps to add a warm, homey touch to your home. Candle lamps are simply lamps in which candles sit. These, too, come in a variety of styles, from Tiffany stained glass to solid colored glass. The candlelight adds a soft glow through the glass of the lamp, which is simply lovely to behold. You can even correlate this with another idea by placing a candle lamp upon a shelf or surface. A candle lamp sitting upon a bookcase looks nice, but ensure that you do not burn the bookcase if you burn the candle lamp while it's sitting in it. Some bookcases do not have enough space between the shelves to accommodate burning candles on the shelves.
Tips
Accent your candles with anything you can think of, from plants, nuts and pine cones found in your yard to shells, rocks and beads. Moreover, place them on decorative plates, in baskets, glassware and upon dollies and other runners and cloths.
Warnings
Always ensure that any candle wall sconces or candles upon shelves are mounted securely so that they don't fall while lit and start a fire.
Never leave candles lit when you aren't in the room or leave the house, especially if you have children or pets who might accidentally knock them over; always take caution to blow out any candles before leaving your home.
