How to Decorate Leggings and Jeggings

Fashionable Craft Ideas for Back-to-School

Arene Penelope
Nearly everywhere you shop for clothing, you will come across leggings or jeggings (jeans + leggings) for girls and juniors especially during the back-to-school season. With so many female students wearing them at school, it will be like a uniform in a sense. Yet, since everyone is different, you will find students who will want to make leggings and jeggings their own. Girls with a knack for creativity will find the following ideas for decorating leggings and jeggings useful.

Decorative Jewel or Sequin Cuff Leggings/Jeggings

A stylish idea for decorating cotton leggings and jeggings is to sew or glue on gold or silver-plated metal studs, colorful flat back rhinestones, or sequins around the leg cuffs. This creates the effect of ankle bracelets.

Tie Dye Leggings/Jeggings

A great way to spice up your leggings or jeggings is to add splashes of color. This is accomplished by tie dying white or light-colored cotton leggings and jeggings just as you would a t-shirt by using a tie-dye kit found in craft stores.

Patchwork Leggings/Jeggings

If your craft is quilting, a fun project is to sew patchwork to your leggings or jeggings. This idea is best suited for cotton leggings and jeggings.

Embroidery Leggings/Jeggings

While I am most familiar with hand embroidery using knitting and cross stitch charts, I have discovered that many sewing machines are designed with darning plates that allow a variety of customized stitching including freehand embroidery, monogramming, and appliqués. Teenagers can think of this as adding tattoo art to their leggings and jeggings.

Iron-on Design Leggings/Jeggings

Students who iron their own clothes will enjoy applying iron-on designs to cotton leggings and jeggings. This can be achieved by using iron-on t-shirt design kits found in craft stores.

The main concept is that there is a world of possibilities when it comes to decorating your leggings and jeggings. While retailers carry a variety of designer colors and styles, there is nothing like adding your own touch of creativity. Not only will do-it-yourself legging and jegging decorating save you money but it will give you choices. It's all about discovering the style the suits you best.
