How to Decorate a Nursery with a Spring Wildflowers Theme

Kristen May
Your baby girl deserves a nursery that is feminine and mentally stimulating, and one of the best themes for this is a spring wildflowers theme. There are a number of ways to incorporate the shapes and colors of spring wildflowers into her nursery that will give her plenty of things to look at and learn from for years to come.

Spring Wildflowers Nursery Decoration: Wallpaper and Paint

The walls are the first place to reflect your spring wildflowers theme in your daughter's nursery, and there are a few good ways to incorporate flowers into the wallpaper. One idea is to paint the walls a simple feminine color and then incorporate a strip of wallpaper along the top, bottom, or even the middle of the wall. This will allow you significantly more flexibility if you want to redecorate at a later point.

Another way to decorate your nursery if you have an artistic edge is to paint wildflowers on the wall yourself. Pick a few simple varieties of flowers, and have a few colors they can be, and go crazy. If you do this, try to make a variety of different combinations of flower types and colors. This can be a great learning tool later, to have your daughter pick out which flowers are the same color, the same type, and both the same type and color.

Spring Wildflowers Nursery Decoration: Furniture

The wildflowers theme can be carried over into the furniture as well in a variety of creative methods. From purchasing a set of white nursery furnishings and painting your own flowers on them (to match the walls if you did those too) to adding simple flourishes and accents, anybody has the skills to make floral furniture. One idea is to replace the handles on the dresser with special floral handles. Another way to add a floral touch to furniture is to put a floral canopy over the crib.

Spring Wildflowers Nursery Decoration: Window Treatments

A great place to incorporate the wildflowers theme into your daughter's nursery is in the window treatments. These can have a very light and airy feel while still maintaining the ability to keep the room dark for naptime if desired. One way to do this is to buy darkening shades, and then to also install a curtain rod and sheer floral curtains on top of those. That way, while the shades are up, the sheer floral curtains will catch the light and draw attention to themselves while still letting a lot of natural light into the room.

Another idea for nursery window treatments is to sew small loops on a few baby blankets and use them to attach the blanket to hooks over the windows to double as curtains. This will allow your blankets to be useful and displayed, and your daughter will love being able to use her baby blankets as window treatments as she gets a little older. Of course, to fit this in with the theme, you should have some baby blankets that feature wildflowers in your color scheme!
