Let's start with what is Saint Patrick's Day and what are some of the things associated with Saint Patrick's Day? Well it is an Irish holiday and it's celebrated every year on the 17th of March. shamrocks, wearing green colored clothing as well as parades and drinking beer is all part of the celebrating and recognizing of the day.
Leprechauns are another traditional site you'll see on Saint Patrick's Day. Pots of gold as well as Irish flags all make up what you might see on Saint Patrick's Day. People all over the world celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with parades and dressing up with silly green hats and green necklaces or bow ties.
So if you are planning on decorating your classroom the first thing you should think is green. You can take small ribbon and cut it off in different lengths and then use scissors and curl the ribbon. Take scotch tape and hang the curled ribbon from the ceiling.
If you would like you may also elect to use streamers to do the same thing. Take green construction paper and cut out shamrocks and hang them all over the walls. You could use black construction paper to make a huge large black pot and place plastic gold coins in it that you can purchase at a specialty shop such as Party City.
I love to decorate with people or characters. And what more better way to create a real feel of Saint Patrick's Day in your office or classroom than making several realistic leprechauns? They can be easy to do once you gather all of the supplies together.
Gather construction paper in various shades of green, black, yellow, etc. You'll also need tape and orange yarn. If you have any left over green foiled Christmas paper or wrapping paper this will come in handy as well.
Collect a paper plate that's white and use as face of leprechaun. Cut out huge eyes for leprechaun and glue onto plate. Make nose as well as mouth and glue on. Now cut out of construction paper a dark green hat for your leprechaun and glue this onto the plate.
Once the green hat is on use yellow and some black construction paper to cut out a belt and wrap it around your hat. Taking the orange yarn attach it under the hat and all around the hat to stick out using glue to keep it in place.
Now use the orange yarn to add for the leprechauns beard. Once this is done you can start by making the body. Cut out a vest and tie using a different color green. Tape or glue this onto your leprechaun. Add some bright yellow cut out suspenders using construction paper and glue them onto the leprechaun.
Make him some pants and then add some pointed green shoes and if you would like them to stand out use green pipe cleaners that have the glitter on them and outline the shoes or you may elect to glue them all around the whole leprechaun to make him stand out and shine.
Adding leprechauns to a room and then shamrocks as well and the ribbon on the ceiling can spice up any room and get any one in the spirit of Saint Patrick's Day. Add a rainbow and place the pot of gold at the end of it on the wall.
If you could get your hands on the gold foiled wrapping paper or go to a flower shop that uses the foil paper to wrap the bottom of the plants and buy some these work great wrapped around a mayonnaise lids or container lids as coins of gold. Then place in huge black pot on wall.
Have each kid dress up for the day as you celebrate or each employee. Hand out green necklaces or green boa's and have all wear green. enjoy your decoration's that you created on a budget.
