Privacy fences are known for keeping neighbors good neighbors. They are not always the easiest to harmonize with your landscaping theme though. The best way to decorate one is to look at it as you would a wall inside of your home. Take the opportunity to utilize it as extra display space.

How to Decorate a Privacy Fence With Paint
Paint does wonders for outdoor design, as much as it does for the interior of your home. Simply by giving the boards a fresh coat of white, it can magically disappear into a country style garden. Brush on a deep green to create cohesion around a backyard tropical getaway. Let your imagination run wild for other themes, alternate different colors for stripes or paint it with glow in the dark paint. Consider the slats your canvas and experiment with different colors and designs. Bring out your stencil kits and have fun. The beauty of paint is that you can always start over again with a fresh coat.

How to Decorate a Privacy Fence With Garden Items
Install a gargoyle or two on top of the posts. Hang a small shelf around the length of it to display a collection of small garden fairy statues or gnomes. Hang up outdoor wall fountains or custom "Welcome" pavers. Install bird houses and feeders to welcome your feathered friends. Any landscaping scheme can be continued along the entire border by looking for ways to use the fence as an art wall. Display any collection of garden decorations from wind-chimes to flags. Just make sure to buy hooks and other hardware that is meant for use outside, or coat them with outdoor paint to keep them rust free.

How to Decorate a Privacy Fence With Plants
No garden theme or landscaping theme is complete without living decorations. Plants are the easiest way to spruce up any outdoor design. Hang a few decorative pots off the posts or decorative hooks. Line some trellis up in front and plant some crawling varieties at the base of the boards, such as morning glories or moonflowers. Berry bushes at the front will attract butterflies (and bees also though) and medium size trees could bring about some furry friends to rest in the branches. Your favorite potted flowers can also be displayed on reinforced shelving along the length of your garden border.

Decorate a privacy fence like you do the rest of your garden and yard. Infuse your personality into it.
