How to Make Decorating Sugar for Christmas Cookies

How to Make that Sparkling, Glistening Colored Sugar for Your Holiday Cookies

Barbie Crafts
It's funny what Christmas memories we all have stored away in our psyche! A lot of childhood memories and impressions create the "Christmas Spirit" for each of us. For me, it is a lot of things that conjure up the memories of Christmas magic, but one of them is a cookie decorated with sparkling, colored sugar. I always thought those cookies were so difficult to make and I never dreamed it was something a regular person could do. I figured only bakeries and very talented moms could make these Christmas cookies; I was wrong.

Most of us have our favorite sugar cookie recipe, but I just love the kind you slice off and bake. They are so easy, and many people choose this method for their "homemade " Christmas cookies. When you use the ones in the freezer case, you have more time left for making Christmas cookies and Christmas memories by using the decorating sugar. When you use decorating sugar to make Christmas cookies festive, people will be so impressed! Children will be delighted, like I always was!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup white sugar

Food color:
red: 10 drops
green: 8 drops
4 drops yellow
5 drops of blue

zip locking storage bag

Sugar Cookies, already baked

Instructions:

Put the granulated sugar in the zipper storage bag. Add Food coloring to the bag, and squeeze to mix. You can store it in this bag, sealed.

Before baking your Christmas sugar cookies, roll or sprinkle with the colored sugar. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake as usual.

When you make Christmas cookies with decorating sugar, you will delight everyone with your Christmas magic! Just don't tell them how easy it is!

I made my own sugar for Halloween one year. It's so much cheaper than buying it at the store, and the texture is beautiful. Thanks for sharing this!
