Materials:
canvas
ruler
pencil
scissors or rotary cutter
fabric
fabric decoupage glue
paint brush
varnish
Directions:
To start your decoupage rug, you will need to cut the canvas to the desired finished size and shape of your floor cloth. Using the pencil and ruler, measure and mark the canvas to make a square or rectangle. Cut out the shape of your rug. It isn't necessary to hem the edges because the decoupage glue will stop the edges from fraying.
Now you need to cut your fabric into pieces and place them onto the canvas to form your design. The pieces can be overlapped or you can leave some of the canvas showing. Experiment with different layouts until you are satisfied with your design. Now simply lift a piece of fabric from the design and paint the back side with the decoupage glue. Press the piece of fabric back onto the canvas in it's original spot. Continue this procedure until all of the fabric pieces used for your design are glued to the canvas.
Now you are ready to seal the decoupage rug. Paint the entire surface of the rug with the fabric decoupage glue, making sure to coat the edges of the canvas. Let the decoupage rug dry for approx. 3 days. Once the glue has thoroughly dried, add a coat of the varnish. The varnish will help make the decoupage rug much more durable for foot traffic. Let the rug dry thoroughly for at least a week, before use. Enjoy your newly created decoupage rug.
To care for your decoupage rug, sweep or vacuum any dirt or particles. If there are any soiled areas, just wipe the surface clean with warm soapy water or white vinegar and water. Do not use household cleaning supplies as they could damage the decoupage rug.

- Use Glue as a Medium to Craft Embossed SurfacesCraft glue or hot glue can be applied to the surface of items to make an embossed pattern. Either one will work for this technique. I like craft glue for more intricate designs, but hot glue dries (cools) more quickly.
