If one of your biggest hair dilemmas is frizzy or damaged hair, you need to take steps to minimize hair breakage. If you're not eating a healthy diet or are guilty of overusing heated styling tools, your hair may be more likely to break and have split ends on a regular basis. Using the right set of styling products and styling your hair with the right techniques can help to minimize and reduce damaged strands.
Use these tips to decrease hair breakage and keep your hair shiny and healthy all season long:
1. Use a heat-protecting mousse or serum before blow drying. Hair may be prone to breaking and becoming frizzy when it's damaged by the heat from a blow dryer, flat iron and other heated styling tools. Protect hair before drying and styling by applying a heat-protecting mousse or serum to at least the roots. Massage this product through the scalp to prevent heat damage.
2. Don't brush your hair when it's wet. If you have a habit of brushing hair with a comb or a brush when it's still wet, now is the time to stop! Wet hair is more vulnerable to breaking and brushing hair can make you pull out strands and cause unnecessary damage. Make sure your hair is at least 50 percent dry before you attempt to brush or comb it.
3. Eat more healthy fats. If your diet is lacking healthy fats, your hair may be more prone to drying out and breaking. Make sure you have plenty of Omega-3s in your diet and take a supplement if you're not eating foods that contain these healthy fats. Omega-3s can help to keep your hair looking healthy and shiny.
4. Use a moisturizing hair mask once per week. I like to use a self-heating hair mask at least once per week to restore moisture and keep my hair smooth, silky and shiny. Hair masks can infuse your scalp with moisture and also serve as a deep-conditioning treatment. If you want your hair to be lustrous and strong, you'll need to use moisture-infusing hair products on a regular basis. Invest in a high-quality hair mask so that you can improve the look and feel of your hair, and also ward off breakage.
5. Ease up on the drying routine. Try and let your hair air-dry for at least ten minutes before using the high heat setting on the blow dryer. Too much heat from the blow dryer can zap the natural oils from your strands and make it prone to frizziness - especially if you have very fine or thin hair. Towel dry hair and let it dry on its own for as long as possible before using any type of heated styling tools.
