Deleting Unwanted Files Clean Up Your Computer so it Performs Better

Jennifer Moore
If you own a computer at some point and time, you will have to clean the system out. This means deleting and removing files that potentially could harm your computer. Below you will find information on how to delete browsing history.

How to Delete Browsing History

To delete computer run history, right-click the Windows Start Menu icon. Select Properties and clear boxes that say 'Store and display a list of recently opened files' and 'Store and display a list of recently opened programs.' This will prevent anyone from viewing what files you've opened, downloaded, or what programs you've run.

To fully delete your computer history without losing any files, copy your files to an external hard drive. This way, you will not lose anything you do not want to. Do not forget to include any programs you do not want to have to reinstall. You can format the hard drive, but it's not enough to completely erase files on your computer. It only erases the addresses, but they are retrievable. Instead, do a data dump, also known as disk wiping. There is disk-wiping software you can buy or use online. Tech companies also will perform disk wiping if you are unsure about how to do it yourself.

By following these guidelines, you can remove browsing history from any browser and permanently delete computer history. By deleting caches, disabling caches, removing cookies and download files, destroying run history, and completely erasing the hard drive, you make yourself and your information more secure and practically untraceable. Tracking data is easy for those who know what to look for. If you do not remove this data, you are putting yourself at risk for identity theft, data theft, or for an awkward confrontation. Deleting browsing history and computer history will make your computer safer to use and will help put your mind at ease.
