How to Make a Delicious Fried Bologna Sandwich that Tastes like Pizza

Kassidy Emmerson
Over 2 billion Oscar Mayer Bologna sandwiches are eaten every year, according to the Global Gourmet website. I know I ate my share of them as a kid. I still enjoy bologna sandwiches from time-to-time. In the warm weather I like mine piled high with sliced tomatoes, onions, lettuce and mayo. In the winter, I like to pair my bologna sandwiches with steaming bowls of soup. Americans love pizza too. It's a 35 billion dollar industry. Dominos alone delivered 400 million pizzas last year, according to their website. A step up from a plain bologna sandwich is a fried bologna sandwich. These tasty creations have many variations. My mother wasn't real fond of bologna herself, but she loved pizza. So she came up with an Italian version of a fried bologna sandwich that we all loved. Read this informative article and find out how to make a delicious fried bologna sandwich that tastes like pizza.

Ingredients You'll Need

2 slices white bread (I use whole wheat bread and that works well)
1 - 3 slices of bologna, depending on how much meat you like in your sandwich
2 - 3 slices mozzarella cheese (amount also depends on personal preference)
Ketchup
Dried Oregano
Olive oil

Instructions On How to Make a Delicious Fried Bologna Sandwich That Tastes Like Pizza

1. Spread a dab of olive oil around the bottom of a skillet. Heat the skillet on "Medium" until it's hot.

2. Lay the slices of bologna in a single layer in the skillet. Score the sides of the bologna with a spatula so it lays down flat in the skillet.

3. Fry the bologna until it's browned on both sides and is hot clear through.

4. Place the mozzarella cheese on top of the bologna to make a fried bologna sandwich that tastes like pizza.

5. While you're waiting for the cheese to melt, spread ketchup on (one side only) both slices of the bread. Sprinkle a little dried oregano on the ketchup to give it a pizza taste.

6. Remove the fried bologna and mozzarella cheese from the skillet and place it on the bottom slice of bread.

7. Top the bottom with the upper slice and you have a fried bologna sandwich that tastes like pizza. Enjoy!

If you like toppings such as tomatoes, onions, olives and peppers on your pizza, you can even add those to your fried bologna sandwich as well.

We used to eat fried bologna sandwiches when we were kids but I've never tried this preparation. Thanks for the suggestion.

I used to make a similar item on english muffins for my hungry boys. Just plain fried bologna and cheese on bread was a standard! Congrats on your status at AC- I am really impressed at 1441 articles!

When I mentioned the title of your article to my husband he said "mmmmm" in interest. I'm not a big fan of bologna though, Kassidy. Sorry.

My husband got burned out on bologna sandwiches when he was a kid, but he can eat bologna fried now. He also likes pizza, so he might like this. Thanks for a great idea!

I didn't grow up with bologna and somehow never acquired the taste for "raw" bologna....however, I do love it fried and topping this with melted Mozzarella sounds scrumptious:)
