How to Make Delicious Hamburger Macaroni and Cheese

A.K.A. "Deadly Mac N' Cheese"

Amy A
One evening my husband and I were searching the kitchen for something easy to fix for supper. We had hamburger, noodles, butter, cheese, and milk so we decided to mix it all together. The result was an amazing dish--cheese, carbs, and protein all in one.

To make your own Deadly Mac n' Cheese is quite simple.

Begin by putting macaroni noodles (or different shapes if you want to be unique) on the stove to boil. While they are cooking, heat 1/2 to 1 pound of ground beef in a skillet. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

When the ground beef is done drain the grease. Drain the cooked noodles as well, and put them into a rectangle or square baking dish. Take half a stick of butter and slice it into multiple pieces. Stir the butter into the hot noodles until it is all melted. Add the hamburger and gradually mix it in as well. Pour milk into the center of the dish of noodles. The amount of milk you use is not exact, it varies depending on the amount of hamburger and noodles. The key to getting the correct amount is to pour slowly until you can see milk at the very edges of the dish.

Now for the cheese. There are two options here: Either leave out a small amount of cheese to add to the top, or mix in an entire 8 oz. bag of shredded cheese and add another type of cheese (such as sharp cheddar) to the top for extra flavor. My family much prefers the latter.

Once you have all the ingredients mixed in and the cheese covering the top pour a little more milk for good measure into the center of the dish. Then place it in the oven and bake for 15-30 minutes (depending on the size of your dish) at 350 degrees. You will know it is finished when it is browning and bubbling at the edges and hot in the center. If it is too moist just cook it a little longer. If your dish is deep and you find that the top is getting too brown before the center is hot, cover with foil. Or if you are ready to eat and find the center hot but the top is not crusty enough broil it for a minute or two. Be very careful when broiling, it gets brown and burns very quickly.

Once it's hot and crispy at the edges get a plate and enjoy! Don't forget to add salt and pepper to taste.
