How to Make a Delicious Meat Seasoning

Marsha J
It can be hard to season meats the way that we want to and after cooking some meats can taste very bland, like they were never seasoned at all. A lot of times it can be the seasoning itself. It is fine to select a variety of seasonings from the checkout aisle at the grocery store but you can also choose to make your own seasoning from vegetables such as onions, peppers and herbs.

The way to make a great and delicious tasting seasoning mix is to choose the veggies that you want to season your food and meats with. Once you have the selection that is needed, get all of the items and place them on the counter. Get a large bowl to hold and mix the seasoning after they have been mashed. Get a glass or measuring cup, fill it with warm water and place it on the counter next to the vegetables. Next, get a good cutting and peeling knife if you are adding onions to the mixture and a good blender. Also be sure to get a large pot spoon. Metal or wood spoons will work but the wooden spoons might retain some of the odor from the mix, so a metal spoon would be best. Last, you will need a container with a lid to container the mixture and its strong smell.

Clean the blender, set it in a good and stable spot on the counter and start peeling and cleaning the vegetables. If there are onions, peel them and chop them. Also peel any garlic's that will be added to the mix. Garlic is easier to peel if a heavy object is placed on them to squash them a little. After the garlic is smash, it is easy to take the skin right off of them. Grab any peppers and take the core and stem out of them. Chop the peppers and any other large vegetables that will be added to the seasoning mixture.

Starting with any vegetable that you want to, begin adding them to the blender. Depending on the speed and strength of the blender, more or less vegetables should be added. It is best to start with the vegetables that do not have a strong odor and will not burn your eyes. Leave the garlic and onions to blend last.

As the mix fills up the blender, it is ok to empty it into the large bowl that should be nearby, before continuing with the blending. After everything is all blended, take the last of the mixture that is in the blender and also empty it into the waiting bowl. Add some water to the blender and put on the blender lid. Shake the blender a bit to loosen some of the mix that may be stuck on the walls and in the blades of the blender. Also pour this last mix into the bowl. If the bowl is very full, you can transfer some of the mix to another bowl.

Using the large cooking spoon, stir the mix until it is well blended together. Once the seasoning is completely mixed, get the sealable container and pour the mix into it. If there is too much of the mix, get another container. The last step is just cleanup. Be sure to place the mix into the refrigerator and label it. A family member who is unaware that you made the mix could toss it in the garbage thinking that it is spoiled food which would ruin all of your hard work.

When it comes time to cook meat, using a spoon add some of the seasoning to your cooking. The amount depends on how much flavor each cook desires in their food. Use your regular seasonings but add some of this new seasoning mix that you created and using trial and error, try to discover the right amount for yourself.

  • Assemble all of the needed items before you blend.
  • Cut up large pieces of vegetables because they can clog the blender.
  • Make small amounts of the seasoning if you do not cook often.
This seasoning is made by most of my family members including myself and my mother.
