How to Deliver Better Business Presentations

Stage fright is the usual excuse one has when making any kind of presentation. However, this can't be used as an excuse when you have to make a business proposal or discussion in the office. Learn the proper and accepted way of talking in front of your peers (or potential clients or business partners) and you should do it with ease and an even improved chance of success.

A strong start

Nothing spells out serious better than when you start your presentation with a serious and almost blunt attitude. A strong introduction to your presentation will get the attention of your audience. For example, instead of saying that you should get started, just get up there and introduce yourself and what you are about to present. Say it as a matter of fact and don't include any jokes or talk about anything that seems to kill the time. Remember, time is something that a lot of business people don't have and you will need to be direct and quick about your presentation.

Tell a tale

While you are in the middle of your discussion, you may want to inject a story that is related to the presentation. This will help to add color to your presentation especially if it's about something boring like programming or statistics. Instead of scrolling right through your presentation like your life depended on it, tell them something interesting about your life so that they will be intrigued about the topic at hand.

A picture paints a thousand words

Your presentation probably has a lot of flow charts and bullets and facts that the people in the room could care less about. To flower it up a bit, attach some pictures that illustrate something positive about your presentation. For example, if you are presenting something that deals with selling computers, then have a picture of a person smiling while using one of your products. This will be especially helpful when telling a tale about your product and how efficient it is for them.

Body language

Above all else, you must look confident about your presentation. Make sure you are not standing behind a podium because this gives the impression that you are nervous and hiding. Instead, opt to stand near the screen of your presentation, hands out of your pockets and waving out about in the air as if to illustrate your every word. If you wish, you can pace around a bit when explaining something but moving too much will give away just how restless you are. Also wear something that will not distract your audiences' attention away from the presentation.

End with a bang

As strongly as you began, you must also finish with confidence. Tell them how you believe in what you have just presented. Also thank them all for their time and then wait for them to applause. After all you have finished your presentation. As soon as the clapping dies down, ask swiftly if there are any questions and answer them accordingly. If there are no questions, thank them again for their time and tell them that you believe you have brought your point across. Then there is nothing left to do but start packing your stuff.
