How to Deodorize Your Refrigerator with Vanilla

Donna Daniels
Refrigerators can develop some pretty nasty odors. Lets face it our refrigerator holds some pretty smelly foods for a long time. Fish is one of the worse culprits for making a refrigerator smell less then nice. It is very hard to get the smell of fish out of a refrigerator once it has worked it's way into our refrigerator.

There are some things you can do to deodorize your refrigerator and make it smell fresh and clean. Most people know the old baking soda trick. You buy a box of baking soda and open it up and let it sit in the back of the refrigerator. The baking soda soaks up any unwanted odor left in the refrigerator by food. This works really well but there are some other things you can do to help your refrigerator smell it's best.

Cleaning the refrigerator is the best way to get the bad smells out. It isn't enough to just put a freshener into the refrigerator and expect it the take care of all the bad smells. You have to take the time to actually clean the refrigerator. Take out all the old moldy food that is past its expiration date. These old foods add some pretty nasty smells to the inside of a refrigerator.

You should also wash the refrigerator out occasionally. The more you use the refrigerator the more you should wash it out. It is a good idea to take time to clean your refrigerator at least once a month.

When it is time to clean the refrigerator you can take vanilla extract and wipe down the inside of the refrigerator. The vanilla extract leave behind a good clean scent. You can even add some vanilla extract to the water that you wash the refrigerator with.

After you have washed the refrigerator out with a small amount of vanilla extract you can actually prolong the nice vanilla scent in your refrigerator. To prolong the vanilla scent in your refrigerator just take a cotton ball and soak it in some vanilla extract. After a good amount of vanilla extract is soaked into the cotton ball just place the cotton ball into the refrigerator and leave it there. The cotton ball with spread it's nice vanilla scent through your refrigerator for a long time. After awhile you may notice the vanilla scent vanishing and when that happens you can soak the cotton ball in vanilla extract again and put it back into the refrigerator.
