How to Design an Eye Catching Craft Display

Pam Parent
I have been doing craft shows for over 25 years. I attend approximately 30 shows each year. The one thing that I found to be consistent in increasing my sales is having an eye catching craft booth. A pleasing booth draws customers in. There are creative ways to display your craft items without having to break the bank. The following tips are what I have found to be the most successful in my years of attending craft shows.

Eye Catching Table Coverings

It is very important to use tableclothes that cover all areas of your table. Make sure boxes and supplies are hidden. You can find wonderful lace, retro and antique-styled tableclothes at thrift stores. My tableclothes are usually the first compliments that I get during the show. I use ivory lace tableclothes for my craft show displays. This type of tablecloth compliments most styles of crafts. You can use lace curtains, runners, or you can purchase a large piece of lace sold by the yard from Walmart or another discount store.

Professional Signs

I had a professional banner made for my booth, and it really makes a craft booth look professional. Most think that banners are expensive. Oriental Trading Company offers a large selections of printed banners for only $9.99. This is what my banner cost, and it is durable and can withstand the beatings of going from craft show to craft show. Also, because the banner is inexpensive I had seasonal banners made for my booth. Print all signs and fliers using a computer and copier. Nothing looks worse than hand written signs. Another nice touch is to put the signs you make in picture frames. This makes the signs easy to display, and adds a nice touch to your craft booth.

Creative Display Ideas:

Twig Display - If your craft items are jewelry or ornaments this is the perfect display. Gather twigs from outside that are approximately 24 inches long. Wipe the branches clean. You can leave them as-is or spray paint them a certain color. Place these twigs in a large vase. Hang your craft items from the twigs.

Cake Plate Display - Stack three cake plates with pedestal one on top of another. Place small florals, jewelry magnets or any small craft item around the edges of each cake plate.

Old Window Display - Take an old window you have, or get one from a junkyard, and carefully remove all the glass. Sandpaper the areas where the glass was removed. Paint the window in your choice of colors. This display can be placed against a table or wall at your craft show. You can also nail a couple of old boards on the side, back of the window to make it a table display. This is a really pretty display for dried florals or primitive crafts.

Box and Fabric Display - This is perfect for crafts of medium weight. I take small to medium boxes and cover them with fabric. If you have old clothes in a nice print, you can recycle them by using them to cover the boxes. Cut the flaps off the top of the boxes. Glue the fabric on both the inside and outside of the boxes using a glue gun. I love this display because you can stack them on a table or floor. I use these box displays on my table to showcase my centerpieces, and make my products more visible to customers.
