How to Design a Fun Bathroom for Kids

Scott Kessman

Parents put in a lot of time, energy, money, and thought into designing bedrooms and play areas for their kids, but tend to spend very little time on bathroom designs for kids. Kids like having a bath and it can be turned into an enjoyable activity rather than a boring routine. Since children love playing in water and remaining submerged in water, parents should ideally spend some time in visualizing and incorporating ideas, when they design bathrooms. Parents should concentrate on making their kids bathrooms look lively. Decorating the bathrooms with toys may be avoided. When there are too many distractions such as playthings and toys, kids will get engrossed with the playingrather than finishing their bath.

Most of the bathroom designs for kids are centered on certain themes and the use of bright colors. Choose the color theme with care. Children like bold colors, so choose shades of orange, blue, yellow, purple, red, and green. A good quality plastic paint is a good option. Since neutral shades are hard to maintain, stick to colors that will not show damage easily.

The most important factor is the interior décor and that is an area that needs a lot of thought and planning when you select the bathroom designs for kids. Select a theme that is interesting and choose the right tiles for the floor and the walls. Keep a cabinet for toiletries and a separate one for toys if needed. Ensure that the height of the cabinets, mirrors, and sinks are adjusted according to the needs of your child. Keep the wet and dry areas separate. Choose printed curtains that have a mix of light and dark shades as they will not get soiled easily.

While choosing bathroom designs for kids you should use different themes for boys and girls. Dolls, butterflies, and mermaids for the girls and bikes, cars, and pirates for the boys are a good idea. Keep switchboards out of reach and ensure that the hot water faucet is clearly marked. Also ensure that the floor is made of skid-proof tiles as kids are prone to falls.
