How to Detect Self-injury

If you're a teacher, keep a closer eye on the kids with learning problem. They tend to get over upset. You may want to try to see if they have any marks on their arms, from biting on them, because of low coping skills. Try not to be obvious, you may be wrong, however, keep a watchful eye open, far if a students starts out biting themselves, it could lead to something worse.

Self-injury could be smoking - This is self injury to the lungs. This can be detected by seeing if the person's clothes stink, if they seem to wanting to take a walk everyday, and you sense it's not for health reasons.

Self-injury and trying to sniff harmful chemical to get high - The person may act drunk or intoxicated. You may notice hair spray cans missing, or almost empty. If you suspect this, go check all items that have a spray nozzle. Then go to the medicine cabinet, and look to see if any drugs are missing. If any drug you suspect is missing, go straight to your child's room, and confront him, with a firm, but caring heart. If the person is gone, look through his drawers, and coat pockets. Finding out as soon as possible may help in total recovery. If you still don't find what you're looking far. Call a lot of this person's friends, and ask them if they have noticed anything strange going on lately.

Knowing a person you suspect of self-injury is the best weapon - Watch someone you suspect that you feel maybe hurting himself. Does he have a bad temper? If he does, this is a sign that can lead you to believe, and further investigate, he may injure himself. Usually it's not just one characteristic that makes a person someone you need to watch carefully. If it's just smoking, this may not necessarily mean, that he would ever injure himself.

If someone has an eating disorder, you can watch for problems by watching if they take frequent trips to the bathroom. They seem to eat a lot and never gain weight. They may say their fat and ugly, and be as skinny as a rail.

How to detect self-injury is summed up by knowing and observing individuals, you're around, whether it is family, friends, or a student in your class. Detecting just means observing any different behavior that you didn't noticed, and finding ways to help make this newly found problem get some help.

At last you feel you've helped this problem, now don't stop watching, this person's progress. This is the time for your best detective skills to come into play; far when someone is rehabilitating, temptations, are going to try to attack their mind. The person wants you to be a hawk, and watch his every move. This will help in early detection should a problem start to accrue. Counseling and psychiatric advice can be helpful when early detected.
