How to Detoxify Your Body and Feel Better

As the food industry continues to research new ways to preserve and enhance the taste of the foods we eat, as well as find faster ways to produce and package that food, consumers are exposed to a frightening amount of toxins. While many of the additives in our foods are harmless in small amounts, they can accumulate over time, doing damage to your body in the form of cancers, liver and kidney damage, heart disorders, and general illness.

So how can you decrease the toxins in your body without giving up eating altogether?

There are many small changes you can make to improve the way you feel and decrease the amount of toxins in your body. These small changes will gradually detoxify your system and keep you healthy over the long term.

Start by eating water-rich foods. Fruits and most vegetables naturally contain a lot of water. Watermelon, celery, citrus fruits, cabbage, and tomatoes are all excellent choices. Work to replace some of the meat in your diet with water-rich fruits and vegetables, and your body will have a much easier time removing the toxins from your system. These water-rich foods are much easier for your body to digest, and the increased fluids will help your liver to filter all that passes through it.

Decrease the amount of processed meats that you consume. Many of these meats, particularly hot dogs and some sliced lunchmeats, contain high quantities of nitrates. These nitrates can pose a serious risk to the health of your heart. Eat as few of these meats as possible. If you like to eat meat, replace the processed meats with non-processed cuts from your grocer's deli.

Believe it or not, your breathing also impacts your ability to decrease the toxins in your body. Each time you exhale, your lymph system is activated. The lymph system carries the toxins from your blood and helps rid your body of those toxins. Breathing acts as a pump for the lymph system. Many people practice breathing exercises daily. In addition to detoxifying your body, these breathing exercises can make you feel better by reducing stress.

Last of all, don't forget to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water. Try to avoid beverages that contain high amounts of caffeine or alcohol, both of which can have a negative impact on your short- and long-term health. Alcohol can be particularly dangerous over time, causing serious damage to your liver.

By combining all of these strategies, you can significantly reduce the toxins in your body and feel better quickly, without sacrificing many of your favorite foods. Your body will appreciate it!
