How to Develop a "Santa Claus Mentality" to Become a Better Entrepreneur

A Basic, Simpler, and Easier Method of Thinking and Being like an Entrepreneur

No, I'm not talking about those Santa stand-ins that you see in the center of malls that you go to. I'm talking about thinking like good old Saint Nick when it comes to selling anything that has good value. Santa himself has a load of goodies loaded up on his sleigh, ready to deliver down the chimneys to houses during the night when the kids are asleep. When it's safe to come down, he drops down the chimneys with his sack of smiles, places the toys on the floor and furniture, deposits the goodies to the family's stockings, and his work is done. He goes back to his sleigh, drives his reindeer to the other houses, and he repeats his steps, giving the family and the kids what they want while they're asleep. Since he knew in advance what the kids want, he gives them exactly what they want, knowing that the kids are in for a surprise when they wake up on Christmas morning. It's the same thing with their families. Although adults themselves are too heavy to sit on Santa's lap, he knows what they want as well.

When it comes to "playing Santa" in the marketplace, there are two lessons you need to know if you want to have wallet that's as fat as Santa's belly that's plump as a bowlful of jelly:

1. Give the customers or clients what they want!

2. Make sure it's very valuable and helpful for the customers or clients!

Let me repeat that again for clarity, but in full detail:

1. Give the customers or clients what they want!

For example, people are getting sick and tired of not having enough money. People want to have money to do more than just to get by, more than just to pay the bills, to put bread on the table, to keep a roof over their heads from the harsh hand of Mother Nature, etc. This is why they turn to products (offline and online, text/prints, audios and videos) on the now-popular topics of:

-self-help
-personal development
-motivation
-inspiration
-making money (and lots of it)
-marketing
-business
-prosperity
-financial literacy
-Financial freedom
-success
-wealth
-home businesses
-money (the main topic)
-...and a whole lot of other topics related to these.

All kinds of people want to buy things that make their lives better.

2. Make sure it's very valuable and helpful for the customers or clients!

No one wants to waste their money on something that won't help or improve their lives, make their lives fun, guarantees longer life or bigger wealth, extend their marriage or relationships, or do anything that will make their lives worth living. Tragically and unfortunately, this is why people always fall for the "get rich quick" trap. There are con men, swindlers, posers, fakers and scammers selling "false hope" to these desperate people. These crooks sell their "false hopes" getting the desperate man or woman's hopes up with lots of hype and empty promises just for a quick buck, and when they got the money, the shady seller runs like a bat out of Hell with your money, never to be seen from, or heard from, again. That's because they've sold a worthless product that's sweetened hype on the outside and salty useless on the inside. What these frauds sold is nothing but garbage that the people can't understand how to use. Their wallets are empty, and so are their owners, as they become bitter, cynical, skeptical and distrustful of salespeople on the inside. That's the sad truth, but it's also reality.
So if you want to earn money legitimately, don't be naughty like a crook and sell products that have no value at all a.k.a. worthless. Be nice like Kris Kringle and sell products that are worth MORE than the price tag.

Simply put, if it makes lives better and creates smiles on the inside and outside, then it sells, and it sells a LOT.

On second thought, I take back what I said earlier. Let's go back to those Santa look-alikes in the mall, and then go to the big man himself.

Kids are full of hope and wishes during the holiday season, and the dream of getting what they want for Christmas is overflowing. One day, and when the parents or family go to the mall, the kids see Santa Claus talking to little boys and girls on his lap. This gets their excitement meter on overdrive, and they want to be next to meet him and tell him what they want for Christmas. Sometimes a picture gets taken of Santa with the child on his lap, but I've sidetracked.

The marketplace is the same thing, although no one wants to sit on the seller's lap and break his/her legs accidentally!

Think of your customers or clients as the "children" who are letting you know of what they want. However, unlike Santa himself, they won't be sitting on your lap, but you're selling your products instead of giving gifts. Also, you want to make sure that what you're selling is valuable to the customer or client. Sometimes selling is part psychology, but don't assume of what they want. Have the people let you know of what they want, and then you give it to them. But it also needs to be worth more than the price tag. The old adage "the customer is always right" still applies, and will always apply when selling anything in the marketplace. Anything that can improve their lives, provides tremendous value, and makes them happy, will reward you with the gift of money which will make your wallet match Santa's plumpness, or even make it burst! There are other books which will teach you the same thing, but this is a simple version of how to do it right.

So in summary, before, during AND after the holiday season, learn how to think like Santa when it comes to selling anything. Learn to develop a "Saint Nick Mentality". In the marketplace, you're playing the big guy himself, and you're selling your presents (your products) to the kids (the customers, the clients and the buyers). It takes a small amount of practice, simple research and a bit of salesmanship knowledge, but when you become successful at it, your sack will be full of so much money that you'll be riding your sleigh to the bank, and you'll be decking the halls with bills of hundreds (of dollars, that is!)

Merry Christmas, and happy holidays!

This is one of the two articles that came to me during a Christmas parade in my town on December 2, 2007.
