In fact, it is so important, that most martial arts have various kicks that accompanies their style. One thing you want to do when you are in the martial arts is to try to develop stronger kicks. The reason you want to develop strong kicks is because this is the main thing that you are going to be using when it comes to defending yourself. Developing strong kicks can be a very difficult task for most martial artist. In this article, I want to explain how an individual can develop stronger kicks. Lets begin.

Repetition Is Key

One of the key factors to developing strong kicks is to practice each kick repetitively. As you begin to practice the kicks over and over again, your legs become stronger and stronger. The reason your legs become stronger is the continues movement of your leg hardens the quads and the hamstring. When those become strengthen, your kicks become stronger. You want to practice each of your kicks at least twenty times on each leg. The speed that you do the kick does not matter at all. I find that the slower you go, the tighter the hamstrings and Quads get. Repetition of kicks is a great way to get stronger kicks.

Use Ankle Weights

Another great way to develop strong kicks is by the use of ankle weights. When you are practicing your kicks, you probably don't have anything strapped to your ankles. Ankle weights forces you to make your kicks harder because of the pressure it puts on your kicks. Ankle weights also serves another purpose. They can also make your kicks faster. Try this experiment. Do twenty of your favorite kicks with ankle weights strapped to your leg. You want to make sure that you are doing 20 on each leg. Now after you are finished, take the weights off and find your nearest heavy bag. Now do those same 20 kicks without the ankle weights and kick the heavy bag. You should notice that you are able to kick the bag much harder without the ankle weights. In your mind, you still think you have the ankle weights on, so you still think you have to kick with the same force. This is what cause your kicks to be stronger.
Practice with the Opposite Leg

Another thing you want to do to make your kicks stronger is that you want to practice with your opposite leg. We all have our favorite hand or leg that we like to use. So what you want to do is become stronger on both sides. The way you do this is by practicing with the leg that you use the least. By doing this, it will make you strong on both sides.

Having strong kicks is an essential part of the martial arts. Its important that you put effort into making your kicks stronger. Follow some of the tips outlined in this article and you will see a dramatic improvement on the strength of your kicks.
