How Diabetics Can Enjoy Sweets & Keep Blood Sugar Levels Low

Casey C
Diabetics all over the world have to follow a strict diet, that most find impossible to follow. It's all about portions when it comes to a diabetic diet. Small portions during meal times, most often always leaves you still feeling hungry. In return, this makes you eat again sooner than what you're suppose to. This makes it impossible for you to keep your blood sugar regulated. A diabetic's blood sugar should be between 70 and 120. Most diabetics are lucky to keep their blood sugar under 200.

What makes diabetics blood sugar rise? Here are the main things that make ones blood sugar rise: calories, fat, carbohydrates, and sugar. In order for diabetics to keep their blood sugar levels in the range of 70 to 120, small portions matter. Diabetics should eat four small meals daily. There are some foods diabetics can eat during meals to make them feel full and take away the urge to over eat. There are some things diabetics can do to lower their blood sugar levels as well.

One thing diabetics can do to lower their blood sugar levels, is to exercise. Exercising can burn calories, which in return lowers your blood sugar. Another way to lower high blood sugar levels is drinking cold water before and after meals. The water seems to dilute the sugar in the kidneys. Drinking lots of water makes you have to urinate often, which then removes most sugars from your kidneys. For diabetics most often people, as they get older have kidney trouble which then leads to kidney damage. This leads to being put on dialysis and then kidney failure for most. Drinking an eight-ounce glass of water before and after meals can lower most diabetic's blood sugar levels by forty points. This is a huge amount for diabetics. Also, drinking an eight-ounce glass of water before meals can make you feel fuller.

Diabetics can fill up during meal times by eating what we call free foods. For example, look at your plate as it being a pie. One part of your plate is one half, the other two are one forth. Fill half your plate with green beans; one forth may be potatoes or Mac and cheese. The other one forth may be your meat selection. This allows you to feel full from eating one of your free foods before eating the portions that contain sugar, fat, or carbohydrates. As most diabetics know carbohydrates break down into sugar.

One thing that seems difficult for diabetics is sweets. Cutting out all sweets makes it harder to stick with a diabetic diet. There are things you may eat to take away that craving for sweets. It is important for diabetics to keep track of foods that keep their blood sugar levels in the appropriate range.

These are just a few things I will eat to take away my craving for sweets. These desserts are low in carbohydrates and sugars. You can bye the chocolate graham crackers and sugar free whip cream. Putting the whip cream in the middle of two graham crackers and freezing them. This is a way to make ice-cream sandwiches with lower calories, sugars and carbohydrates. You may also bye the small graham cracker crust and fill them with sugar free pudding. This makes a delicious pie that is also low in calories, sugars and carbohydrates. These are just a few examples of how you can still enjoy sweets without all the extra calories, sugars, and carbohydrates.
