How Did David Archuleta Do on Dolly Parton Week?

Everyone seems to love David Archuleta, especially if you listen to the local Utah media.. When Paula Abdul said he could sing the phone book, I agreed, simply because I thought the phone book would be more entertaining then his random song choices. I have to admit, he wasn't one of my favorites, until last night.

His choice of songs for Dolly Parton night made me fall in love with him. He sang "Smokey Mountain Memories" beautifully. In fact, this is the first performance all season long that has made me react more strongly then 'she's good,' 'what was he thinking?', or 'does Simon own more than one shirt?' Since the song was originally sung by Parton, it would stand to reason that he was singing, as she was, about Tennessee, but he wasn't and here's how I know.

David is from Murray, Utah, and our part of Utah, (I don't live in Murray, but I'm 10 minutes away from it) is surrounded on all sides by tall blue mountain ranges, collectively known as the Wasatch mountains. Often, especially in the evening dusk, those mountains will turn a gorgeous shade of smoky blue. David wasn't singing about Tennessee last night. He was singing about Utah, and that's why he got my vote.

I haven't been ignorant to the fact that he has talent. He's a fantastic singer, and I suspect he can win the competition. However, what amazes me about this kid is the after math. After he stops, he looks just shocked at the legions of female fans that are cheering him on. How endearing is that? Other guys have seemed to handle it with a certain confidence, but David never looks like he knows how to handle it which is even cuter.

Overall, he's not going home tonight, unless myself, the local UT Fox affiliate are wrong.

    I agree...David Archuleta has an amazing talent. His voice is so pure. He's got looks. He's humble...Hope he wins the American Idol Season 7:)

    I love David Archeleta he is my favorite idol this year. He has an amazing voice and he really deserves to win this year. I can see myself buying his cd's So all of you ARCHELETA fans vote DAVID all the way if we all vote than he could really win this. I really think that everyone should vote off Carly I really don't like her. So vote ARCHELETA all the way. I can't believe that he is only 17 but he has an amazing voice. SO ARCHELETA FANS VOTE FOR DAVID PLEASE.

    I love David's humility. I worry that he doesn't give himself enough credit, but if he's ever feeling down all he has to do is think about how he's got the most people screaming for him every, single, night. He's going to be awesome next week. I know last season the theme was songs of "compassion and hope" and we all know David can certainly nail that emotional connection with a song even if he forgot the words and hummed it instead.

    Yep David Archuleta was GLORIOUS last night, made me cry how beautifully he sang that song!
