How Did Jersey Shore's Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino Get His Nickname?

The Best Nickname in TV History: The Situation

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino may be the most exciting reality TV star ever. Everyone knows that his abs are "The Situation," but how did he get the name in the first place?

As a bit of background, The Situation is best known for three things: GTL (gym, tan, laundry), creeping on unattractive chicks (sometimes landmines and grenades), and his abs. His sidekick, Pauly D, often has to act as his wingman. Vinny hits on his sister. J-Woww smacks him in the face. And Snooki longingly remembers the night they hooked up in the hot tub in season one. He truly does have a great life!

The Situation revealed the origins of his nickname on The Tonight Show (with Conan) last December. In fact, The Situation charmed Conan so much that Conan vowed to help him become a star. Ironically, it appears The Situation is more famous than Conan right now, though certainly not as wealthy. Conan urged Mike to trademark his nickname. Think of the royalties The Situation could garner from t-shirt sales alone. Can Jersey Shore fans not help but to let out a giggle every time they hear the word, situation, in everyday life? It is, perhaps, the best nickname in television history.

Mike explained to Conan that he got his nickname while walking down the beach with friends one summer. A girl, most likely a guidette, was with her boyfriend and saw Mike walk by shirtless. Even though she was in the presence of her boyfriend, she couldn't stop staring at his abs, and Mike and his friends noticed. Apparently she even pointed out Mike's abs to her boyfriend, who couldn't have been very happy about it. Mike's friends said, "Dude, looks like we have a situation here." At that point forward, Mike's abs became The Situation.

Mike's nickname has helped to make him the most popular and best known Jersey Shore cast member. Snooki's exploits, including being arrested and punched in the face, make her a close second. But it's The Situation who owns the house. It truly is Sitch's place.
