How Did TSA Scanners & "Pat Downs" Become Political?

Snidely Whiplash
Clearly we live in hyper political times. I have a common sense questions for readers: How did the controversy over TSA scanners and pat downs become so politically charged?

How can leftists, who were so against all things Bush and national security, find themselves now supporting the clearly intrusive TSA position at this point? Remember the Patriot Act? Warrantless wiretaps? Consider, warrantless wiretaps were an invention of Jimmy Carter under FISA and used by all presidents...Clinton too, yet when Bush did it the left portrayed it as conservative snooping and illegal, which clearly it had not been so considered before Bush.

Generally lefties are the ones all about how "a woman's body is her possession." SCOTUS has ruled one's own body is their own private property.

So how then is this okay with lefties? Mind you, I don't care about this topic one way or another frankly, but I rarely let slip a chance to point out the never-ending hypocrisy of leftist positions. So if Bush had FISA court approval to eaves drop on potential terrorist phone calls overseas, that was a travesty and a violation of some sacred trust, yet being physically and sexually assaulted to fly on a plane is just fine by lefties. No, not a bit of hypocrisy in this example, right?

I knew this would be a charged political issue when it popped up after the election. Seems when someone on the right says "it's sunny outside," that is an invitation for leftists to beg to differ. And what of arresting travelers who, when they get to the airport decide they will not allow themselves to be scanned or patted down? Did ya know to object to that and then to try and leave the airport can result in arrest and an $11,000.00 fine? Say what?

So if one objects to being assaulted by government and then tries to NOT get on a plane but leave the airport, they can be arrested and fined? For what...wanting to leave the airport? So now deciding NOT to fly once you get in line is a crime? Hmmmm...better not go to the grocery store and then get out of the checkout line...if a lefty sees ya they'll call the law and it's jail for you, you heathen!

What in the Hell has happened to sanity in this country? And lefties want to know why conservatives do not wish to compromise with them any longer? How can one compromise with seemingly insane concepts like arresting Americans for not wanting to be assaulted? I get it if one tried to bypass the line and get on a plane...arrest them. But to change one's mind and decide not to fly is now illegal after one gets in line, huh?

Gee, is it any wonder most of the nation looks at progressivism as screwy, insane, odd, untoward, out of place, misguided and most of all, dangerous to our liberties?

Lump it all together folks....quantitative easing; Cap & Trade, net neutrality, using Czars so as not to have to go through the typical confirmation process; Obamacare being forced past our majority objections; apologizing for America all over the world; redistribution of wealth on a national scale; taking over car companies; paying unions .80 cents on the dollar and rank and file shareholders get pennies; suing Arizona for enacting an almost completely identical immigration policy as the federal government, and so much more. I could go on for pages, but I think my meaning is clear.

Remember, change IS NOT incumbent upon us. It is incumbent upon those desiring it to make their case and progressives are, as the younger folks like to say, EPIC FAIL! We needn't change just because progressive's demand it...that's not how it works except in between another progressive's ears. In the real world hopey change is insanity, and as the world is now seeing with Obama, it is so much smoke and mirrors. Obama is merely the poster child for the movement.

And keep in mind, the rank and file progressive minion is mad that Obama is not going far enough! Listen to them and you can hear them tuning up for that primal scream they are always on the cusp of. So when the vast majority of the nation disagrees with progressive politics, society and government, we are the bad guys for not agreeing? How does that work exactly?

We cannot allow this political movement to hold any more power than they already hold and we must make it our mission to remove them from power, post haste.

Well then Tyler, I misjudged your comment. More often than not such characterizations are used to denigrate all conservatives. I misjudged your point. Sorry.

"Ron Paul people and the Tim McVeigh wing of the Libertarian Party."

I said nothing about trying to pigeon hole hole or strict constructionists or leaving everything up to the state. I was referring to the paranoid, militant wing of the Libertarian Party and I stand by my statement.

I don't consider Scalia or Thomas to be crazy, the article was about the TSA program and who really rehected it.

TYLER, "Tim McVeigh wing" ya say? How nice. Nice to know that if one is against progressive crap they are a member of the "Tim McVeigh wing." Well, count me IN!!!!!! No apologies from me for supporting the Constitution EXACTLY as written and I don't care how much some want to tweak it to suit their own vision. How is STRICT CONSTRUCTION a dangerous position to hold? Because it does not agree with progressives, huh? That's it? Sorry Tyler but progressives do not get to pigeon hole me however suits 'em. And they can't throw out the Document just cause they want to. Doesn't work like that. Sucks, huh? Oh well!

A co-worker of mine tried to justify the TSA holding the man who tried to leave the airport instead of flying by saying that avoiding the pat downs was akin to a guy avoiding a roadblock on the street. "How do they know he wasn't trying to hide something?" he asked. I asked him "what if the guy avoiding the roadblock just didn't want to deal with the hassle of traffic and decided to take an alternate route... does that make him a criminal?" No answer for that one. But his comment does suggest that this may have been the TSA's line of thinking at the time (even though this clearly wasn't the case).

By own kitchen, I mean they are more likely to identify with most conservative causes and movements.

  • Tyler Mills12/1/2010

Jim, Obama, Biden and others have been outspoken about their support of the program. I have written numerous articles in support of the program. I think you have more trouble in your own kitchen with the Ron Paul people and the Tim McVeigh wing of the Libertarian Party. The Alex Jones people of the world for example.

Yeah, this issue is crazy and overblown by left and right. we just went through customs and security at four airports and there were no pat-downs or super-scanners....it's all b.s...besides, the security people were polite and efficient... makes you wonder where the media have their heads at
