How to Diet Properly

And Keep it Off

While I write this article, I wonder how can I be an inspiration of how to diet when I myself am overweight. However with the tons of diets on the market that I have tried in the past I know what works and what does not work.

When beginning a diet first of all you have to realize one thing. You can not diet. That seems very contradictory to the title however it is the truth. Diets do not work. If you go on a diet and lose the weight and after it is all gone then say okay I am done now I can eat again you will gain it back. Depending on how much weight you lost, it may take a long time or it may come back quickly however if you go back to your old eating habits it will come back.

The proper way to diet is quite simple. You must change your life style habits of eating. With everything, dieting properly is a work in progress and that work in progress lasts a life time. Changing your eating habits so that you are eating sensibly and committing to exercise is the only real way to lose weight.

You have heard of all the "fad" diets in the market today. Some work and some do not however think about it this way. If you choose a diet plan in which you have to buy their food to lose weight are you planning on eating their food for the rest of your life? Are you planning on taking that pill everyday for the rest of your life or skipping sensible meals with diet drinks meant to replace food for the rest of your life? When you think about it in that aspect it does not seem so tempting.

I joined weight watchers in the summer of 2005 with the ambition to lose weight. I learned a lot of great things while I was there. Stayed with it for six months and lost 10% of my body weight. I did it sensibly and slowly. One thing I learned is when you are in the mood for something or craving something that is not quite healthy for you there is only one thing you can do. Eat it... that's right eat what you crave but do so in moderation. If you are craving a candy bar first think about do you really want to eat it. If you can not stand another second without biting in for one ask yourself if you would be satisfied with a candy bar that promotes less fat and calories but if not then eat what you crave. The reason they tell you to do so is simple. If you do not eat what you crave and deny yourself from it, eventually the urge will be overwhelming and you will end up eating the item and end up eating too much of the item causing your self esteem and conviction to lose weight to go out the door.

Did you cheat last night and eat at an all you can eat buffet and feel just horrible for doing so? If so then do not worry about it. Let the past be in the past. People that struggle with overweightness can not be worried about pitfalls in their lifestyle changes. Backslides will occur from time to time. The most important thing is that you learn from those backslides and then move on to do better with each passing day. Taking it one day at a time.

Never go grocery shopping when you are hungry. Doing so will cause you to purchase more tempting, fattening things that you would not ordinarily purchase. By eating prior to going to the grocery store you will be less likely to impulse buy bags of chips or cookies or other things that the stores always make look so appealing.

Another way to stay on task with your dieting is eat several small meals. If you eat every three hours you will less likely be hungry throughout the day. Stock your refrigerator up with fruits and vegetables that you can munch on whenever the hunger strikes. Carry these items to work also, so that the vending machine does not become your best friend.

One other problem is those items that are lost calories. They really have no function whatsoever yet are taken quite often. Things such as tea and soft drinks. You would not believe the dietary intake of these items are so low that by drinking items containing sugar and other bad ingredients you are killing your diet. I absolutely adore Pepsi and it does become quite difficult to put the Pepsi down and drink water something that can nutrient your body with minerals and quench your thirst better then a soft drink can and can not only help with weight loss but with your hair and nails making them more fuller and stronger.

Don't worship the scale. It's fine and recommended to weigh yourself once a week just to see how your weight loss program is progressing but it is never recommended to weigh yourself on a daily or even hourly basis. By doing so any little insignificant gains can cause you to become highly discourage even if you have not considered that it may be that time of the month causing the excess weight to occur.

Last but not least the most important part to any diet is activity. You can get exercise at any time in so many ways. Some of the most popular ways of course is joining a gym or working out via gym products in your home. However a brisk walk with your loved one or kids is a great way to get the whole family active while enjoying time with each other. Begin walk clubs at work and you along with your co-workers can spend part of your lunch hour walking around the parking lot or making laps in your building if permitted. Another easy and inexpensive way to exercise is cleaning. By cleaning you are working every muscle in your body so get out the mop and start cleaning your floor or cleaning your blinds. Using cans of foods can be a productive weight if you are looking to tone up areas of your body.

I do hope that these learned tips can help you in your quest to lose weight and be healthy. Just remember Rome was not built in a day. You did not gain all this weight in one day and you will not take it off in one day. Just take each day one day at a time and never get discourage even when faced with adversity.
