How to Differentiate Between Swim Diapers and Regular Diapers

Sarah Holmes
It is vital to know the difference between swim diapers and regular diapers, because if the diapers fall out of the packages and get mixed together you do not want to grab the wrong one. Swim diapers leak if you try to use them on a day to day basis. Regular diapers do not leak. Swim diapers work well in the water. Regular diapers and pull-ups do not work well in water.

If you are looking for a regular diaper and you grab a swim diaper, you will be sorry. Therefore, here are the key differences between swim diapers and regular diapers.

"Elastic Like" band

Swim diapers have a very tight "elastic like band. You are likely to see more ripples than you would in a typical pull up diaper.

Pant Style

Swim diapers are placed on like underwear or a pull-up would be. They do not have tabs.

Dark Colored

Swim diapers are generally dark in color and they have more color than a typical pull up diaper.

Branding

Some swim diapers may have a branding on the back that indiates what they are such as "Huggies Little Swimmers"

Film

Swim diapers might have a white film overlay over the diaper. This white netting is very different than regular diapers.

Weight

Swim diapers may appear to weigh a little less when compared with a regular "pull-up" type diaper.

Ability to Hold Water

Swim diapers do not hold as much water (ie. water is a nice term for the wet substance you want to stay in the diaper and not leak out). In the past when my daugher had a swim diaper on outside the pool and decided to go, the urine went everywhere! I only recommend swim diapers for the pool. Take my word for it, they are not recommended for the car.

Feel

Swim diapers appear to have a softer feel to them than regular diapers or pull ups.

Using this guide, you should quickly be able to tell the difference between a swim diaper and a regular pull up and therefore save yourself a lot of grief. The swim diapers I buy are either blue all over or pink all over whereas the other diapers usually have a lot of white around the pattern. This is an additional way to tell them apart.

Now you will easily be able to tell the difference between a swim diaper and a regular diaper. Good luck & happy swimming!
