How to Diligenty Obey God

Cindy Mae
We should all obey God diligently but how do we do that. To do something diligently means that we do not ever give up and that we do it the best we can. We give special attention to what it is we are doing and take great care in the way we do it.

There are 4 steps in obeying God diligently and we can find all we need to know how to do that in Deuteronomy chapter 4.

Verses 1-2 tell us that we have to make God's word our standard. This means that everything we do should line up with God's word. If it does not, then it is not right. We have to realize that doing it God's way is not always the easy way.

Verses 6-9 say that we need to carefully guard our Testimony. Now this does not mean our words, this means our living testimony. What will people see when they look at your life and how you live it? We have to realize that we can talk to people all day long and tell them the wonderful things that God has done for us, but if they can not see it in our lives then our words mean nothing. We have to carefully guard our living testimony and make sure that the way we live shows our faith in God.

Verses 15-20 tell us not to have idols. When most people think of idols we think of a statue or something that we worship. That is not always what an idol is. An idol can be anything that takes time from God. If we put anything before God, it is an idol. Money can become an idol very easily. Some people get so wrapped up in money they loose sight of God. If we put things ahead of our personal relationship with Jesus then it is an idol. We have to put God first, before anything and everything in life because if anything comes before Him it becomes an idol.

Verses 39-40 say we must realize that God Blesses obedience. When we follow our Lord God with all our hearts and souls, He is going to Bless us! When we practice obedience diligently, God is going to Bless us. God commands us to love Him with all our hearts, minds, and souls (Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27). If we truly do this then we will obey Him with diligence and we will be Blessed!
