How to Disable the New iPad Themes in WordPress

How to Get Rid of the New iPad Onswipe Theme on Your Blog

Millionaire Hoy
WordPress and Onswipe recently released a new iPad-only theme that adds touchscreen functionality and a few other perks, but while some might have welcomed the new iPad them, others aren't so pleased. Following is how to disable the new iPad theme in WordPress.

I woke up this morning to check my WordPress blog on my iPad [as I do religiously every morning] and I was completely shocked as I couldn't recognize my own blog. After doing a bit of research [a little bit] I found that WordPress recently gave the "go-ahead" to automatically update all of its blogs to a new Onswipe theme that is exclusive for iPad users [other tablets aren't affected]. In my personal opinion, the new Onswipe theme made my blog look a ugly and was a bit buggy - although it supplied a few new features that were pretty neat.

I searched all over the web and couldn't find a way to disable the new iPad-only theme, but I knew that it was possible [as lots of people complained about having to disable it] and after tinkering around a bit I figure it out.

In order to disable the Onswipe iPad Theme, log in to WordPress and navigate to the Dashboard. In WordPress' Dashboard, you'll want to click the Appearance tab to edit your blog's aesthetic qualities. After clicking the Appearance tab, you'll be lead to a theme management page and right under your Current Theme's Options you'll notice a hyperlink that says "iPad". Clicking the iPad link will take you to the Onswipe theme settings and in order to disable the new iPad-only theme all you'll need to do is uncheck the "Display a special theme for iPad users" checkbox -that's all.

Disabling the new theme will revert your WordPress blog back to its normal appearance and if you ever want to renew to new Onswipe theme [once all the bugs have been worked out], you'd only have to click on the "Display a special theme for iPad users" checkbox again.
