How to Discourage Your Children from Using Drugs!

Todays World, is nothing like it used to be. And we have ALL said that to our Children, in the past. And it does keep getting worse, year after year, unfortunately.

With it, we all learn lessons, and we all offer advise. And it is good to share our experiences, because God didn't give us a manual for our Children, or a floor plan for our lives. So all we can do is live, and share our knowledge, and hope for the best.

With that, I wish to share with you, my knowledge on how I have found it best to try and discourage your Children to stay away from Drugs!

You see, at a young age, I start introducing things that need to be said. Although the child is young, I know how to keep it simple, and easy to understand. I simply put it into story format. Just like when you tell your child not to get into cars with strangers, you offer up an example. "When a man pulls up to you in a car, reaches his hand out with some candy, what do you do?" This being the simple pop quiz technique.

I do the same thing with the drug scenario. People might try to sell you things. Like pot, they might call it other things, too. I mean, you even have to tell the Children about those lick and stick tattoos. Those have been commonly given to pre-schoolers just to watch them and their reactions and laugh.

A parent cannot be with their child twenty four-seven, especially if they put their child in public schools! And if they do home-school, what happens when they spend the night at a friends house, and sure; you checked the friend out, and the parents, but he neighborhood too? Maybe you did. But that does not always prevent guests in the neighborhood, you can never be too safe. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to make you paranoid, just prepared.

Personally, we have told our Children about everything from a small age. Maybe they didn't understand it, maybe they did. But I can tell you this, we have five children, and they are not drug abusers, or drug pushers, or sellers. They have no drug convictions on their records, or anything to the sort. Our youngest is now sixteen. The Children we have fostered I am uncertain as to what they did, unfortunately. And by everything, I mean, we informed our children not have premarital sex, and not to rape, and right from wrong as best we could from the very start.

No one is perfect, we might like to think we are, we might like to try to be. But unfortunately, it is not something we have conquered as of yet.

However, as with animals, it is also the same with Children, and been proven many times over, it is easiest to teach our Children at the younger ages. They are more willing, less stubborn, and more absorbent when young! So it is a good time to instill into their minds: good. Right from wrong, as best as we can. This way we have a better chance of not raising criminals. And no, I am not saying that you would. I am saying the chances are better that we won't, if we work harder on doing more of the right thing. We need to stay on task.

Thats why I am writing this, at a young age, I simply offer up a simple story, "Billy doesn't want to drugs because drugs will make him sick, and do things he doesn't want to. They will make him act up, wreck his car, and loose his job. Billy knows drugs aren't good for him, they will make him dumb, and he won't be able to finish school!" Its the little things in the story, that will touch base, use little things, that you know will affect your child's train of thought. If he likes baseball, or playing Barbie dolls, something that will make them think and remember.

As they grow older, they will hear your voice when you aren't even there. They will remember your silly little story that made very little sense, and they might smile a little inside, as they walk away from the looser selling the drugs; but they will know. It was you who taught them. They were discouraged to turn away, and encouraged, to stand on their own, to walk away, proudly, drug free.

It was you that made the difference, for you and your Child. Spread the word. Drugs aren't any good! KEEP REMINDING THEM! Don't let them forget, and never let them forget that YOU care, because they need your words of encouragement to keep them going, everyday! Share this article with other parents, spread the word!
