How to Get Discovered for Your Music

Jendayi
There are thousands of musicians all over the world that vary in skill. Some are extraordinary performers, some are average, and the rest are lackluster but get noticed because of their star appeal. It can be very difficult to find your footing as an artist and make headlines when all of these musicians are competing for the same goal. Out of all those thousands of musicians, many of them go unnoticed because they pursue their musical careers in the wrong way. There are certain steps aspiring musicians should take when they want to get discovered for their music. These steps are mentioned below.

1. Record your music professionally in a studio or at your home using decent software. You want to get your music in a music file format such as an mp3. Music files can easily be transferred to compact discs, uploaded to websites, sent through email, and downloaded onto music players.

2. Promote your work on Youtube, Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook. You want to make your name known and these websites are a great way for you to do so. You will need to upload your music files to these websites. You should be aware that people can easily (illegally) download any video that you put on Youtube. However with Myspace you have the option of allowing or disallowing people to download your music. You can even sell your music on Myspace. You can also use twitter to place links to the music that you have posted on your Myspace and facebook page. These sites are all a great way to network.

3. After you have recorded and uploaded your music onto Myspace or Youtube you are now ready to play your music live in front of an audience. You cannot expect to be discovered by hiding behind the internet. Don't expect to upload your music to a few websites sit back and think that you are done. You have to get out there and perform live. Sign up for talent shows or open mics and look for gigs on craigslist. You never know who may be sitting in the crowd.

4. Sell or promote (give away) your work on the streets of your town. You might need a permit to sell your music on the street. Permits are usually fairly easy to obtain. This is a great way to promote yourself and to meet people face to face. When you meet people let them know who you are and what you are selling or giving away. If you intend to sell your music or give it away you should make sure that the sound quality is great. You want to pull people in with the sound of your music and not pull them away. If you are persistent enough and sound good you will create a name for yourself around your hometown which is a great way to start.

5. Gain a following by making yourself noticeable. Numbers count when it comes to being discovered. Having 40,000 fans will get you noticed by the top dogs in the music industry. The music industry is all about money, commercial appeal and marketing. Sadly, having considerable talent is not that vital because sound engineers will make lackluster musicians sound good in the studio. You must strive to make yourself visible.

6. Send in demos to the A&R departments of music companies that interest you. After you have completed these steps it is time to look for a home (record company) for your music. You should send your demos to the A&R departments of music companies that interest you. Readyfireaim.com provides you with contact information of A&R reps of different music companies and whether or not they accept unsolicited material (material that is not requested.) Your demo tapes should be of great quality and the songs on your demo should be in snippets and not in full length. Make sure that each song does not exceed five minutes. You should also have no more that 5 songs on your demo.
