How to Make a Dishcloth Angel

A Heavenly Gift for the Christmas Holidays or Anytime

Linda Ann Nickerson
Have a heavenly holiday at Christmas time, or show up with a super special gift at the next bridal shower by creating this simple and economical dishcloth angel craft. In fact, this easy craft is ideal for a children's project or a group workshop.

This adorable dishcloth angel also makes a lovely party favor for a kitchen shower, holiday cookie swap, housewarming celebration, pot-luck dinner or another homey gathering.

No sewing is required. You can complete the entire easy dishcloth angel craft project in just a few minutes.

Because no stitching or glue is done, the recipient of your dishcloth angel may choose to keep it intact or dismantle the components to use the dishcloths and pot holders for practical kitchen purposes.

.

Materials Needed to Make the Dishcloth Angel

1 standard rectangular dishcloth (terrycloth or linen)

1 square washcloth

1 square potholder

2 chenille stems (pipe cleaners)

3-5 small pony-type beads

1 sturdy rubber band

12 inches of 3/8" to 1/2" ribbon

.

Instructions for Making the Dishcloth Angel

String three to five small (pony-style) beads onto the center of a single chenille stem (pipe cleaner).

Place the rectangular dishcloth flat on a clean countertop or table. Fold the full length of the dishcloth several times to create accordion-style pleats.

Fold the entire pleated dishcloth in half, and fasten it below the fold with the beaded chenille stem (pipe cleaner) to form the head of the dishcloth angel. Be sure to place the beads in the front, as they will become the dishcloth angel's necklace.

Place the square washcloth flat on the countertop or table. Roll it up to form a cylindrical tube. Wrap the tubed washcloth around the dishcloth angel, just below the head and beaded necklace. Pull both ends of the washcloth to the front of the dishcloth angel, and fasten them together with a rubber band.

Tie the ribbon around the rubber band, to cover the dishcloth angel's wrists. (If you wish, you might stick a small flower, a tiny candle or another adornment into the rubber band and ribbon, as if the dishcloth angel were holding it.)

Tuck the second chenille stem (piped cleaner) under the rolled washcloth on the back of the dishcloth angel. Fold the square potholder, also accordion style, and affix it to the dishcloth angel's back by twisting the ends of the chenille stem (piped cleaner) around it. The washcloth will form the dishcloth angel's wings.

Write or type a favorite poem, Scripture verse or personal message on a piece of paper, and attach it to the dishcloth angel with a pin or string, if desired.

That's it.
