How to Use the Disney Princess Cash Register

My 5 year old child received the Disney Princess cash register as a birthday present and was thrilled to see it nestled in its pink packaging. The cash register looked intriguing in its packaging but playing with it proved to be difficult. We found the cash register to be a bit too technical for our liking and worse the cash register came without directions. Perhaps the manufacturer thought that operation of the toy would be self explanatory but it was not. Below I have included steps to show you how to play with the cash register.

Playing with the cash register

I found playing with the Disney Princess cash register to be really frustrating because I did not understand its concept. It took me two weeks to figure out how to operate the machine; after the first three times of trying to use it I gave up and set it aside before coming back to it. After two weeks I finally figured out how to operate the cash register.

Things you should know before playing

First, you will notice two number pads on the cash register. You should know that one number pad is for entering prices and the other number pad is a pin pad that is used to enter a (pretend) pin number. The scanner is for pretend purposes only; you can make it beep but it does not actually scan the items. You will have to manually enter in the price of the item that you are scanning. To enter in a price you simply press any number of your choice on the center keypad for example, if you want the item to cost 12 dollars then you would press the numbers 1 and 2. Once you enter in the price of your choice press the oval shaped enter button. The computer generated voice will then state out loud the price that you have just entered. You can go on to enter additional prices, just be sure to press the enter button after entering in each price.

After you have entered in all of the prices you must press the total button (located on the center keypad.) Upon pressing the total button you will be prompted by the computer generated voice to choose how you would like to check out. Your options will be debit or cash.

Checking out using cash

If you choose to pay by cash press the cash button and then using the center number pad, enter the amount that you want to pay. You must enter in an amount that is the same as or greater than the total. If you enter an amount that is less than the total you will be intercepted by an error sound. If you enter an amount greater than the total, the difference will be the change that should be given back to you for example, if the total is $12 and you pay $15 your change will be $3 (and you will see that difference on the rectangular screen.) If you enter an amount that is equal to the total you will get a $0 amount as you have paid full price.

Checking out using debit card

If you would like to pay using debit you simply press the debit button. After pressing the debit button, you will be prompted to swipe the (included) debit card and then enter in your pin number on the pin pad that is located to the left of the center number pad. First, swipe your debit card in the narrow slit that is located near the pin pad and then enter in your pin number. Your pin number is any made up combination of numbers that you choose. After you enter in the pin number press the enter key that is located on the pin pad. Upon pressing the enter button, the cash register will make ringing sounds and then your transaction will be complete. After the ringing has stopped, the total will remain on the LCD screen. To clear the screen you press the crown button located on the pin pad.

That is how you use the Disney Princess cash register. Operation may seem a bit overwhelming but now that you know the basics, playing with it should be less of a hassle. This cash register is a fun toy but it is difficult to use so children under the age of 6 or 7 might find it frustrating to play with. The Disney Princess cash register runs on two double AA batteries which are included.
