There are many cities that have curb-side pickup for Christmas trees. Most of those cities will actually take the trees and put them in a shredder and use the wood chips from the Christmas trees. This is a great option if you have this opportunity in your city, as all you have to do to dispose of your Christmas tree is to carry it out to the curb. Also, the Christmas tree is being recycled and not just thrown away. Call your city department to see if your city has a curb-side pickup to dispose of your Christmas tree.
If your city does not have curb-side pickup for Christmas trees, then your other option is to take it yourself to a local recycling center. At the recycling center, your Christmas tree will be well disposed of into either mulch or wood chips. You can visit the Christmas Tree Website to locate a recycling center near you where you can dispose of your Christmas tree.
If you have a fireplace or know someone who does, then you can put your Christmas tree towards good use. Take your Christmas tree out into your yard and cut it up into sections. Make sure to remove most of the pine needles if they have not all fallen off yet. Cut the Christmas tree into blocks of wood that can be used as fuel for a fireplace. Do not dispose of your Christmas tree this way, if you sprayed any chemicals on your tree to preserve it as they may be harmful in the fireplace.
If you have a cut Christmas tree this year, maybe next year considering buying a living Christmas tree and you will not have to worry as much on how to dispose of it. A living Christmas tree has the roots still in tact and can be re-planted into the ground. After Christmas you can actually re-plant the tree in your yard. If you don't want it planted in your yard, then there are several conservation centers that will take the tree and plant them for you.
One way that you should never ever use to dispose of your Christmas tree is to burn the Christmas tree in your yard. This is not only very dangerous but is also illegal in many places. If you burn your Christmas tree you are running the risk of setting your house on fire, sending pollutants into the air and burning yourself or another person. Never consider this an option when disposing of your Christmas tree.
Remember, before you dispose of any Christmas tree to make sure that all the Christmas ornaments, decorations, garland and tinsel are completely off the tree. Any leftover tinsel or decorations may mess up the proper disposal of the Christmas tree.
