If you are looking for a fun costume that boys (big or small) will love, consider a dog or puppy costume this Halloween. All you need to create this costume is to get a white, black or brown hooded sweatsuit set that includes a pants and jacket. For small children you can use hooded pajamas. You will also need felt fabric and face paint. These instructions will turn your sweatsuit or pajamas into a dog costume.
Choose a color of felt that coordinates with your sweatsuit or pajamas. If you have white, get black to create a Dalmatian costume. If you have brown, you can make a large white circle to put on the front of your body to imitate the underside of the dog and black spots to create spots for the back. This can be a beagle costume or any number of other dog breeds. Just look at pictures of different dogs to decide what color your markings should be.
Cut out felt shapes to make spots to match the type of dog of your choosing. Sew them onto the costume. Make sure you don't sew it so well that you can't remove the spots later. Also use felt cut outs to make ears and attach them to the hood of the jacket, a matching hat, or a headband. Add a tail to the costume by using felt or a cloth belt and pin it to the butt of the outfit.
Once the costume is ready, use face paint to transform into a dog. Paint a black triangle on the nose and then a black line down the center of the top lip. Paint the lips black and add dots and a few whiskers on the top lip. You can also paint a circle around one or both eyes and perhaps a hanging tongue on one side of your chin.
For the finishing touches, you can add a dog collar and perhaps a leash (not recommended for children). It might be fun to dress your dog as a human and bring him with you for trick or treating.
