I'll admit, Vista does have a few really nice features. The graphical features are endless and everything looks awesome. It's easier to find files I'm searching for. Security options are much easier and automatic. However, all of these extra features come at a price. Vista uses a ton of ram or physical memory to function. If your computer doesn't have enough physical memory to run Vista without any problems at all, you're definitely going to have a very slow performing computer.
Of course you could simply upgrade your ram to prevent this performance problem, however, sometimes your processor just doesn't do it either, or you may not like Windows Vista all together. I don't blame you, there are thousands of people in your situation. Thankfully, it is possible to downgrade from Windows Vista to a more convenient and reliable operating system, like Windows XP.
Windows XP has been released for so long that there are no known problems or errors with it. It runs fast and still works with all hardware available. You will definitely see a performance increase after "downgrading" your computer back to XP, the better operating system.
There are several ways to go about doing this. The easiest way is to completely dump your Vista operating system, and then install XP once again.
Of course to do this, you will need to purchase the XP disc. It doesn't matter what you get, if you buy Home or professional, you're going to see the performance difference. Professional just has a few more security features and extras.
Be careful when getting rid of your Vista operating system. There are a few ways to do this, and some computer manufacturers make it more difficult than others. With some computers, you can hit a button like "F12" or "F7" while the computer is booting to enter a recovery menu. You usually get the option to "delete partitions". In this case, you're going to want to delete the partition in which your operating system is located, this should be quite easy to figure out, as most computers only have one or two partitions. MAKE SURE that when you do this, you have access to your drivers.
You will need your drivers for the computer to run properly. The only problem is that the Windows Vista drivers aren't going to be compatible with Windows XP. Look ahead of time for driver support for your computer. These are usually available by the manufacturer's website. Throw them on a disc before getting rid of Windows Vista, it'll save you a lot of time and stress.
Put the XP disc in, boot from that disc, and your installation process will begin. You'll be guided through the installation, and then you'll have XP! After getting all of your updates, virus protection, and everything else, go ahead and install all of your drivers. Please note that you may not be able to get updates before your drivers if you don't have some sort of Internet driver. It may be easier to install drivers first in this situation.
Good luck, enjoy your new operating system and your faster computer!
