How to Download Music to Your Nextel Phone

Nik Minor
Nextel users have a couple of options for transferring music to their phones. Using Windows Explorer for Windows user or Safari for Mac users, you can easily transfer music to your Nextel phone, using a USB data transfer cable or memory card. Another option is to purchase the latest songs to use as ringtones for callers, voicemail or alerts at the Nextel Digital Lounge. There Nextel users can choose from hundreds of songs that can be quickly and easily downloaded to a Nextel phone.

Download Ringtones at Nextel's Digital Lounge

Step 1

Visit Nextel's Digital Lounge to browse the list of music available for download using Internet Explorer or Safari, for Mac users.

Step 3

Click on "Change Device" located in small print along the left side of the screen. Find your Nextel phone model from the list and click on "Select This Device." This will ensure that you will only view products that are compatible with your Nextel model.

Step 4

Select the "Ringers" button to be taken to a list of available ringtones for your phone. Browse by category or artist and select the desired music.

Step 5

Click the "Preview" button to listen to a sample of the ringtone. When satisfied with your selection, take note of the price and then input your phone number and click "Go." A text message will be sent to your phone.

Step 6

Open the text message and follow the instructions to complete the transaction and download the music to your phone.

Download Music From Your Computer to Your Phone

Step 1

Turn on your Nextel phone and connect it to your computer using a Nextel USB data cable. Alternatively, if you do not have a cable, you can insert the memory card from your phone into your computer or a memory card reader attached to your computer.

Step 2

Select "Transfer music" on your phone.

Step 3

Click on "Start Menu," "Computer" and then locate your phone and double-click it to open the phone as a location on your computer. If using a Mac, your phone should appear on the desktop within a few seconds. Your phone should have a "Music" folder or "Multimedia" folder within it in which to transfer music to.

Step 3

Open another "Windows Explorer" and navigate to your music files. Alternatively, PC users can open Windows Media Player and peruse the online stores to purchase and download the latest music.

Step 4

Select the audio file you want to transfer to your phone and drag it to your phone's "Music" folder.

Step 5

Select "Exit" on the phone menu when done. Then select "Yes" to disconnect.

If you have a data service pack, you can also purchase songs directly from your phone. However, due to the small screen size of your phone, it may prove to be more laborious trying to peruse available music.

Great "how to" on getting music to your Nextel Phone. Does this work for any cell phone?
