How to Download Music Online

People have a variety of topics on their websites, and music is a reflection of their personality. Many people like to add music from today's popular artists, but copyright laws may prohibit unlawful usage of contemporary artists songs. Many people use classical music from centuries ago, when there was no copyright.

Step 1

Check out websites that offer legal customizable music player systems, where you can pick a design and upload the songs that you like from their selections or through their search engines. (See Resources for websites)

Step 2

Pick a website that offers music that is legal to download or upload to its music players. Once you pick the music player from the choices provided, pick the songs you like, by clicking on the button that says "ad." The songs will automatically go in the music player, in list form. Save the music player with the list of songs, and then copy and paste the code provided into the HTML section of your website.

Step 3

Limit your selection of songs. Don't place too many songs on the player if your website is only one page. Stick to four or five main songs that coincide with the theme of your website. Place links on your website instead of putting actual music players or videos on your website, just in case there are any conflicts of interest. Sometimes a record company does not give a supposedly legal music file sharing website permission to use songs, even if the website claims otherwise.

Step 4

Use music loops instead of commercial versions of songs. Music loops are actual studio versions of music, only shorter and legal. Link to radio websites instead of radio streams. Don't put videos on your website from YouTube, if you have a commercial website. A hobby website or general interest website where you are not selling anything is more acceptable when using an artists music.

Step 5

Check out sites such as artistserver.com. Artist Server offers music for free, and people can download clips and tracks. It has a shareable playlist format, that enables visitors to the site to save a track as a file, which can then be uploaded.

Step 6

Look at http://www.archive.org/details/audio for concert footage. Audio Archive has vintage and current concert footage that is free, and can be downloaded onto your computer in file format. This can then be uploaded to your website. Visit other sites such as SoundClick, Jamendo, BeSonic, and PureVolume, to download free streaming audio clips. Jamendo also has royalty free production music available for download.
