There is no other gift more traditional during Valentine's Day than a dozen roses. While this long-stemmed, thorn ridden bouquet can be pleasing to the eye, in and of itself it isn't all that romantic. After all, should your chosen symbol of everlasting love be something that will die in just a few short days? In spite of this basic principle, countless men scurry off to their local florists every year to place an order for another dozen of the floral symbol for love.

If you happen to be one of those men who plans to give roses to their special woman on Valentine's Day, then here are some quick suggestions on how you can make the gift last even after the petals have dried up.

Tip #1: Separate the pack
Instead of giving her a dozen roses all at one time, consider breaking up the bunch and giving them to her at different parts of the day. Start by placing one next to her in the morning, then progress by having them sent to her at work at different points during the day, finally end off the dozen over a special dinner planned out for just the two of you.

Get her friends involved in helping your shower of floral affections to help save you a little money on delivery charges.

Tip #2: Rose Reasons
Tie a tag to each of the dozen roses with a piece of ribbon. On each of the tags, write out a reason why she is special to you or a reason that you love her. Not only will it make each of the roses more symbolic, but it will also give her something to keep after the flowers themselves have long bit the dust.

Tip #3: Know your colors
Traditionally, roses given on Valentine's Day are red. However, different colors of roses have different meanings. Personalize your gift by selecting a color that expresses your emotions. Here's a handy list so you don't have to waste time searching:

Red: The traditional symbol for love and romance which probably why they are so in demand during Valentine's Day.
Pink: Is a symbol of grace and elegance.
Yellow: Is a symbol for joy and friendship
White: Is a symbol of honor and reverence.
Orange: Is a symbol of passion and excitement.
Lavender: Is a symbol of enchantment. The lavender rose is also traditionally used to express feelings of love at first sight.

Tip #4: Choose your container
If you're going to give roses for Valentine's Day then take the extra effort to choose a vase that is worthy of keeping long after the flowers have hit the trashcan. Upgrade the standard florist vase to something more sentimental. Consider a personalized crystal vase to live on as a reminder of your undying love. Container options are vast and your local florist is sure to have suggestions that will suit the woman you're buying for.

By following these helpful tips your traditional gift of a dozen roses will take on a new romantic flair!
