How to Draw on Glass

If You Love Drawing on Paper Why Not Try Glass

If you love drawing on paper why not try glass. This form of artistic expression is fun and simple if you have the correct tools to do it with.

The first step in creating a masterpiece out of a regular piece of glass is getting the tools required. There are four things required for this project. You will need a Dremel tool, diamond tipped bits for the tool, a pair of safety glasses and a piece of glass. All of these items can be found at a local hardware store such as Home Depot or Ace Hardware.

Dremel tools are tools that can be equipped with many different attachments. They can either be bought to run off of a battery like a hand drill or can be equipped with a power cord. The safety glasses are highly recommended because as you are etching on the glass it creates a fine powder that may get into your eyes. So just to be on the safe side make sure to invest in the glasses. Once you get these tools you are ready to have some fun using your imagination to draw on glass.

The next step is to set up a clean workstation such as a clean table or workbench. It is helpful if this surface is of a dark color so you can see your drawing better, if it is not just place a dark colored cloth or material on top of the work surface and underneath the glass. Now all that is left to do is be creative and have fun. Just use the Dremel tool equipped with the diamond tipped bits to draw your work of art just like you would on a piece of paper with a pen or pencil. There are several different varieties of diamond tipped bits so experiment and find out what you can do with each one. That's all there is to it when drawing on glass. This is a fun project and you can use it to create a picture on picture frame glass or glass ornaments.

After drawing your artwork you can use a regular frame and put a piece of dark material in it to make your drawing really stand out. And for those who do not really have any freehand art skills you can also trace drawings into the glass. So even if you are of little art talent you can still have a good time drawing on glass. Now just be creative and have fun.
