How to Make Your Dreams Come True

Pat Jacobs

Research has shown that there are just four simple strategies that will help you to get past any roadblock. For practically every successful person has had at least one roadblock (or obstacle), but the main difference between those who reach their goals and those who didn't is how they handle those roadblocks.

1. Believing You'll Succeed-No Matter What. If you truly believe you'll succeed in any project or endeavor you undertake, there's a 90% chance you will.

2. Sharing Your Dream (or Goal) With a Close Friend, Supportive Spouse or Relative-Having a support system will help you reach any goal twice as fact. Why? Because it gives you an instant sounding board and the support keeps you motivated, so you're less likely to give up.

3. Keep a Written Record of Your Aspirations and Each Step That Was Accomplished-You'll be more likely to feel you're making progress. Why? Because it shows you how far you've come. And when you feel like you haven't done a thing, you ca read what you've written down and see that you have indeed made progress.

4. Do the Easy Things or Take "baby steps" First. Getting anything done, even one simple goal or "baby step" jump starts your sense of accomplishment. And any step that gets you closer to your goal helps pushes you on to move forward.

What can keep you from your goal? Focusing too much on it! Research has shown that if you take regular breaks to relax (by yourself or with your family, if applicable), you'll be 70% more productive in other areas of your life (the old rule of thumb was that one had to maintain that single focus).

A happy home life was the crucial factor behind the business success of at least 80% of the leading CEOs!

Some Additional Tips:

Program Your "Mind Computer" Daily. Pick a time (around or at bedtime, for example) to go over the day's events. What made you overreact? What made you feel good? By examining the way you handle situations, you can re-program your reactions.

Challenge Yourself at Least Once a Year. Do something you've always wanted to do on your own, from dining out alone to taking a course in public speaking, then…

Just Do It! Break through the fear. That will prove to you that you can come out intact. Now,…

Reward Yourself. For every change you make in your life, give yourself a little gift (and a pat on the back)!
