How to Dress Stylish in Your 50's or Older

Don't Dress Old when You Can Still Be Classy and Stylish

Malina Debrie
Years ago it seemed impossible to be female, over 50 and dress stylish. Clothing designers were stuck on designing fashions with appeal for children, teens and young adults. seemed as though the only styles available for women in their fities, looked like things you wore when cleaning house.

Today you can dress impeccably stylish well into your nineties if you know how. It's simply knowing how to put clothing and accessories together that work. Find the right style for you and the colors that enhance your features and you will begin to notice people stopping, complementing, and even questioning the accuracy of your age when you provide it.

Wear Styles That Flatter and Work With Your Body

Not every style on the racks or on the runway will look good on your body. This becomes more obvious as you age than any other time in life. You must know what looks good on you. If you really do not know how to dress for your body build, have a friend who will tell you the truth, go shopping with you. Try on different styles, colors and fits. Let her see you with the style on. If your friend tells you it doesn't work for you, don't buy it.
Visit and Shop At Boutiques

Make it a point to find the boutique in your area. If there is not one in the city, locate the closest boutique. visit the one closest to you. speak to the manager or assistant manager and tell her what your fashion dilemma is. The women are gems and know how to make you look appealing no matter what your age.

Wear Classic Styles Designed for the Sophisticated Woman

You might want to try and look young and you might even look young for your age, but the fact is, you're in your 50's or older. Dress like you have seen life. Dress like you know something and have acquired some wisdom from life. You want people to look at you and say, "Now there is a woman who knows how to dress". You do not want them whispering, staring, pointing and saying, "someone needs to tell her she needs to dress for her age." Never wear clothing designed for children or teens.

Add Color To Your Wardrobe

Color can be wonderful when worn to enhance and in moderation. Wear fuchsia and limes only as a compliment: scarves, tops, necklaces and earrings. Accentuate your outfit. Don't focus on these as the foundational color. Wear black, navy blue and colors that make a statement instead of colors that say "Floozie."

Wear Jeans With a Jacket.

If you hips are not well toned or well defined cover them. Wearing jeans that show how loose your derriere is will make you look years older than you are. Wearing jeans is a luxury for any woman. Don't deny yourself the opportunity to wear jeans whenever you feel like it. However, exercise to help define your bottom. Until you can look in the mirror and feel proud about that hiney with it being well rounded and looking good, add a jacket to cover up!

Exercise Regularly

Exercising to define and tone your body will result in your clothes looking and wearing so much better. Exercising is not only recommended for your health. Exercise is also recommended for your confidence and self esteem. No woman wants to try on clothing when her body is out of shape. Nothing wears well on you if your body looks worn and old. Exercise regularly and keep your figure and body well defined.

Good tips. I'm 50 and I don't feel old. Times have changed. People are more youthful in their middle age than they used to be.

Thank you! Sometimes, the way I see people my age dressed, I tell my husband "Please, shoot me, if I ever leave the house like that!"
