How Drew Carey Lost Weight on a Low Carb Diet

Drew Carey has been playing the "big" lovable guy on television for quite some years but if you have checked out The Price is Right you may have noticed that Drew Carey has lost a significant amount of weight. Carey revealed that he lost the weight on a low carb diet after he got tired of being overweight. Low carb and even no carb diets have been around for many years and have even caused quite some controversies over the safety of them, but from the appearance of Drew Carey the diet seemed to have worked for him.

Drew Carey Weight Loss Explained

According to the new slimmer Carey, "it sucks being fat." The TV host revealed that he was not only overweight but he suffered from medical complications and had Type-2 diabetes. Fortunately for Drew he was able to find a diet and stick with it. He has been able to lose 80 pounds since the beginning of the year and is no longer diabetic and on any medications.

So, how did Carey accomplish this weight loss? He tells People.com that he followed a diet of "no carbs." He says, "I have cheated a couple times, but basically no carbs, not even a cracker. No bread at all. No pizza, nothing. No corn, no beans, no starches of any kind. Egg whites in the morning or like, Greek yogurt, cut some fruit." He also adds that dinner is usually grilled chicken with steamed vegetables that the only think he drinks is water all day long.

Drew Carey didn't just lose weight from his diet though, as he added in regular exercise to shed the fat. His gym regiment contains, "lots of cardio. About 45 minutes of cardio, at least 45 minutes of cardio."

According to Drew he has been able to not only shed the 80 pounds but went from a waist size of 44 to a 33-34. He even revealed that he would love to lose another 10 pounds so that he can fit into a size 32.

A Closer Look at Drew's "No Carb" Diet

For anyone who is interested in losing the weight like Drew Carey did needs to understand that he was not on a "no carb" diet as he says he was. On a no carb diet, there would be no fruit or yogurt consumed. On the other hand, after the initial induction phase of a low carb diet like Atkins, some fruit can be introduced into a person's daily diet. A no carb diet is diet in which a person consumes no more than 5 net carbs in a day while low carb diets can range anywhere from 8-30 net carbs in a day.

There are conflicting studies that have been done on low carb diets and their long term effectiveness as well as how safe these types of diets are. There are actually millions of people that have been successful on low carb diets and have been able to keep off the weight. Like any weight loss diet, it needs to be a lifestyle change and not just a passing fad in your life.
