Dried Apple Rose Wall Arrangement

Supplies:
Salt
Lemon juice
Large apples
Dehydrator
Wall basket
German statice
Floral foam
Glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors
Blue check bow
Floral foam
Blue dried florals
Small paint brush
Clear varnish

Directions:

1. Slice the apples as thin as possible. You will have the best result if you use a vegetable and fruit slicer. In a medium bowl mix the lemon juice and salt together. Place the apple slices in the bowl and let them soak approximately 15 to 30 minutes. This will help keep the apples from turning brown once they are dried.

2. Place the apple slices on the trays of the dehydrator. Follow the directions that came with the dehydrator on the length of time it will take to dehydrate fruit slices. My dehydrator takes approximately two to three hours. Every once and a while check on the apples. When apple slices are bendable and dry, they are done. If the apple slices are crisp and break, they have been over-dried. Carefully remove the apple slices when done.

3. Make one apple rose at a time. Fold an apple slice in half, then roll it. Glue end piece to the bottom of the apple rose. If you want a larger rose, fold another apple slice in half, then glue it to the bottom of an apple rose. Roll the slice around the rose, then glue end to the bottom. Continue until you have the desired sized rose. The roses in the photo were done with one apple slice. Paint a layer of varnish over each apple rose. This will help to preserve the dried apple rose. Let dry. Make as many apple roses as desired for your wall arrangement.

4. Glue the floral foam to the inside of the wall basket. Arrange the German statice starting at the top, side and bottom of the foam. Fill in German statice in until the wall basket is full, and forms a half circle-shaped arrangement.

5. Glue the bow to the center of the German statice arrangement.

6. Glue the blue dried florals throughout the statice arrangement, and on the check bow.

7. Glue apple roses throughout the wall arrangement.

These apple roses look lovely glued to the front of a grapevine wreath, or added to homemade potpourri. To make a rose with a stem, glue a piece of thick green floral wire to the bottom, center of each apple rose.
