How to Make Dry Shampoo

Sarah Afshar
Dry shampoo has become one of the most effective ways to clean your hair. Typically, anyone can use dry shampoo. You can have dry or oily hair, it doesn't matter. If you are looking for an efficient, yet effective hair care product, dry shampoo is the necessity you want to consider. Today, I have decided to demonstrate how easy it is to make your own organic dry shampoo, right from home. Lets get started!

The products you will need include:

-Corn Starch
-Silica
-Clay
-Oat Kernal Flour
-Oat Milk Extract
-Vitamin E
-Scented Oil

You want to begin by grabbing a large container or a small bowl out of your cabinet. This will be used to mix all of the ingredients together to create your dry shampoo. Once you have done this, you want to simply add the Corn Starch. The Corn Starch is the most important ingredient in the dry shampoo, as it works to absorb the oils without damaging your hair. You want to add about 1 cup. You can find Corn Starch at just about anywhere, especially your local supermarket.

Secondly, you want to add the Silica. The Silica is going to work as a developer to allowing the dry shampoo to thicken. Silica is FDA approved, making it an ingredient that you can use. Especially one that works great with making dry shampoo. I am going to use Solgar's Silica Veggie Cap Pills. I am going to empty about 5 of them into the large container and/or small bowl.

Are you having fun yet? You want to then add the Clay. The Clay works as the primary host to thicken the dry shampoo and make it come to life without any added parabens or synthetics. The Clay is something you can purchase or you can dig up. If you do decide to dig up, make sure you use the right soil. The soil looks rather orange or peach. You can create slip before creating your clay. I chose to dig my clay up, remove the rocks, and then create slip, followed the product. It took me about a day to do this. You want to add about 2 tbsp of the Clay to the mixture. Remember, you can choose to purchase Clay or make your own.

As you continue, you want to add the Oat Kernel Flour. Oat Kernel Flour is used to balance the Corn Starch from the natural oils in the hair and scalp. It prevents irritations from resulting. This amazing product is used by vets to protect animal fur from dry scalp, however; it works just as great on humans too. In fact, it is used by humans to alleviate and pacify dry skin. Where there is a remedy, there is a way. Oat Kernel Flour can be purchased at selective grocery stores such as whole foods and earth fare, however; you can find it online. I am going to use about 3 tbsp of Oat Kernel Flour.

Once you add the Oat Kernel Flour to your almost finished dry shampoo, you want to add the Oat Milk Extract. The Oat Milk Extract works as a treatment for your hair. It allows your hair to maintain it's moisture. You can find Oat Milk Extract at just about any health food store. The liquid tends to be more expensive than the capsules, however; it works easier, as 1 drop is equal to about 4 emptied capsules. I am going to use the liquid, of which I will use 1 drop into the combination.

Now we are going to add the Vitamin E. The Vitamin E works as a balance. It separates the good oils from the bad oils, while protecting your hair. You can find vitamin E just about anywhere. I purchased some from Walgreens that I am going to use. You want to break and add about 2 capsules. Once you have accomplished this, you want to add it to your concoction.

Lastly, you want to add your Scented Oil. This is what creates the ultimate scent in your product. If you are one that loves and appreciates fruity smells, use a scented oil that is more on that wavelength. You can purchase these individually just about anywhere. The prices are also very reasonable, as well. For my dry shampoo, I have decided to mix several oils together to create a wonderful scent.

Combine your ingredients. Let it set for about 5 minutes and then apply to your hair. You don't need a lot, but you need enough that will work for you. You just created Dry Shampoo. You should be proud of yourself. Whether you are on the go, traveling to visit some friends or at home, enjoying time with that special someone, dry shampoo is recognized to help those that need it.
