How Duct or Duck Tape Can Help Organize Your Next Move

So you found the perfect house/apartment and now you are facing the task of packing up all your beloved stuff. Hopefully you have been collecting boxes or maybe you even took the easy way out and bought some at the local haul-it place. The problem arises when you get into your new place and all those boxes look pretty much alike. That's when you begin the frantic hunt for the spatula or the screwdriver or your favorite CD. Here is an idea to help make your hunt much easier!

First, keep boxes together by room--kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom...etc. Use a permanent marker to write a description on each box. Instead of just "kitchen" write "pots and pans" or "pantry items". Then when the box makes it to that specific room in the new house, you can set it in the vicinity where it will be put away, saving some steps.

After you have described the contents, choose a color of duct tape for that room and seal the box with it. Also wrap some around the sides of the box so it can be seen even when the boxes are stacked. As the boxes get placed in the moving truck, organize them by colors of duct tape. Then when you get to the new location, unload one color at a time into the room where it belongs.

This process is especially helpful when other people are helping you move. You might remember that you put the linens in the long white box, but your movers don't know that. With the duck tape system, everybody can figure out where each box belongs!

So--as you're collecting boxes for that next move, make a small investment in a permanent marker and several rolls of different colored duct tape to make for a smooth move.
