How EA Sports Forgot About Their PC Gaming Customers

What Happened to MVP Baseball 2006, 2007 and Future Editions?

EA Sports is perhaps the largest manufacturer of gaming system software catering to interactive sports play. With a line-up that includes baseball, basketball, football, golf, hockey, racing, and soccer, EA Sports has a game designed for just about every type of fan. However, in recent years, there has been one fan that has been consistently left out: the PC gamer.

While EA Sports still creates PC games, many of the series and editions have been deleted from the line-up, only to be offered on such gaming platforms such as the X-Box and Playstation generations. EA Sports' 2007 PC line-up includes sports such as basketball, football, and soccer; with a significant omission to the baseball, hockey, and golf games. In fact, the 2008 editions of football and basketball are already confirmed and are available mid-August, 2007.

One of the biggest losses to the EA Sports' PC gaming community was the discontinuation of the MVP Baseball lineup. Last marketed was the 2005 edition, which was tailored to coincide with the 2005 baseball season. In 2006, and then in 2007, no current editions were published, it became clear that EA Sports was trying to eliminate MVP PC gaming fans from their platform, and push them to the current year's MVP editions on the X-box and Playstation generation platforms.

Consequently, EA Sports did manufacture the game to have over a hundred seasons that can be played, however, with Windows Vista, personal computer upgrades, and software that can be easily lost or broken, there is a current need to recognize that the PC gaming community needs to replace and/or upgrade their favorite EA Sports games. This need is being felt, not only with consumers, but with retailers nationwide. Upon a recent visit to Toys R' Us, the sales representative in the gaming department told my husband and myself that we were not the only people who were looking for the 2007 edition of the MVP Baseball game. With a strong demand from consumers, there is a way to get EA Sports to recognize that PC gamers will still purchase their product.

You can write to their corporate headquarters which is located in Redwood City, California. Their address can be found on the back on any EA Sports game. Tell them what an avid PC gamer you are, what your favorite EA Sports game is, how often you play, and on what platform. Most companies love to get feedback from their customers, and if they see there is a need for a product, will address the issue. Unless companies see that there is a need, they will go on assuming that current consumer's needs are being met. Until then, gamers will have to keep using outdated games, and hoping they last until something new comes on the market.

I'm glad someone finally took notice. It's been a long time coming. Fight Night would be another great game that would do well on the PC. Even they offered just an online download, I think it would be worth it.

While this move does effect some, the majority of gamers would rather play sports titles on consoles, because these games lend themselves to gamepad controlers and the bigger screens that TV's offer. Very good article.

I only play one game on the PC (Guild Wars) but it must stink for PC Gamers to not get the game they want on PC. If it makes you feel better this year's MVP Baseball game stinks. EA actually doesn't have rights to the MLB anymore so the MVP games are now college baseball. It was last year too, maybe that's why they didn't release it on PC?

Interesting article. I never really understood how playing baseball, etc online would be that fun so I stick to the gaming consoles for sports, but do enjoy The Sims, and others for the PC.
