How to Earn College Credits Without Taking Courses

Save Time and Money

Anonymous Brandy
I am a college student. I also have a life, a job, and plenty of other tasks that keep me busy throughout the week. I really don't have too much time left to relax.

I had been trying to find a way to balance my hectic schedule and perhaps speed up the process of achieving my Associates degree. I had been having trouble reaching the required amount of credits for a difficult college mathematics course. The only credit hours I needed in order to receive my degree were at a standstill because of my weak performance on a placement exam in that subject area. I would not be able to complete these credits until I passed three prerequisite courses. The prerequisite courses would take three full semesters to complete and I would receive no credit towards my degree for their completion.

I repeatedly sought advice from my college advisors to avoid this situation and was unable to obtain any solutions to my problems. This is when I began doing research on my own.

I started sweeping the Internet for ways to bypass my required math course. It was my nemesis that had to be defeated. I did not want to waste all of that time and money on prerequisite courses that weren't going to give me any college credit. After all, I only needed three credit hours to graduate!

Finally I discovered a website that solved my problems. Unfortunately, it would have made me much happier if I had found it sooner. I could have saved nearly half of the time, effort, and money that I have spent on college to earn my Associates degree!

I wanted to share this discovery of mine with you since I had to find it on my own. I wish someone had shared this advice with me before I started attending college. I could have graduated much sooner and spent a lot less money as well. Take the time to look into this and see if it is right for you. I feel that anyone can benefit and save.

It is called the CLEP test or College Level Examination Program test. Anyone is eligible to take the exam as long as the college you are planning to attend accepts them. Most colleges will accept CLEP credits.

CLEP tests are 90 minute examinations on a certain subject area. If you receive a passing score you will gain the credit for the corresponding college level course. The 90 minute exam is multiple choice for most subject areas. Depending on the CLEP exam policies your college has, you could earn up to 3 - 12 college credits with a passing score on a CLEP test. There are 34 tests to choose from.

Fees for a CLEP exam typically range from $70 - 90 dollars. This estimate includes the study guide you will also receive. Think about how much you will save by paying this $90 dollar fee instead of your college tuition. It is really something to look into if you are confident in your ability to study and obtain knowledge on the subject you are testing on. It's a great way to advance quickly in your college degree program or studies.

If you don't pass the exam, it is no big deal. It does not count against you. You will not receive any failing grade or bad review. You simply do not pass and you lost the fee for taking the exam. You can always try again. Study hard before you take the exam! You want this easy credit! Spending all that money on books and tuition for hours in a classroom is not worth it if you can pay $90 and spend 90 minutes taking one exam instead. If you pass, you can really benefit and save a lot of time and money. Take the test seriously. If you don't pass, you will have to wait six months before you can take the same exam again.

You can find everything you need to know about the CLEP exams at the website address below. The page you will see will have the answers to all of your questions. Visit the section "CLEP college search" to see if your college accepts CLEP credits and proceed from there.
