How to Earn Money Writing Online Game Guides

Brandon Miller
One of my favorite topics to write about is online gaming. Writing online game guides is a great way to earn extra money. It takes little time and effort, and if done right can lead to nice returns. This article will teach you how to successfully write online game guides while earning a little extra spending money.

Find a Publishing Platform

The first step to earning money writing online game guides is to find a place to publish your articles. Personally, I prefer Associated Content and Bukisa. Sites like these pay you based on the number of views your content receives. Since online gaming is a popular topic, it should yield decent returns if it is done right.

Tip - Publish to sites that allow you to keep the rights to your content. This lets you publish your articles across multiple sites and earn even more money.

Find and Research a Game

This is the most important step of the game guide writing process. Some games will bring great page views while others will not. There are lots of places to find online games. Social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace have hundreds of games. When selecting a game, try to find one that is popular enough to garner page views, but not so popular that search engines are already oversaturated with game guides.

Next, spend enough time playing the game to write a thorough guide. Don't just copy the game's FAQs.This is just as important as finding the right game. If your guide is unhelpful, you will not get very many readers. Without readers, you will not make very much money.

Write the Game Guide

Now that you have selected and researched a game, it is time to write your guide. First, select the keywords that you want to focus on in your article. Since search engines will provide a majority of your readers, your content needs to use good SEO (Search Engine Optimization) by using keywords properly. Your keywords should include the name of the game, the site where the game can be played (Facebook, Myspace, etc.), and other words that a reader would search for online (tips, tricks, hints, guide, FAQ, etc.). Include your keywords in your title, description, and sporadically throughout your article.

Next, split your article up into sections that are highlighted by subheads. This will make the article easier to read and help the reader find the tips they need quickly.

Tip - Finally, insert the most important tips like this so that they stand out and grab the readers attention.

Create Backlinks

Backlinks can help you bring in readers by providing links on sites that your target readers will likely visit. It can also help boost your guide's reputation with search engines by being connected to other reputable sites. Blogs are a great place to get backlinks. You can also post your link on Facebook or Myspace groups dedicated to the game.

Tip - Be sure not to spam sites when posting the link to your guide online. This can get you kicked off or banned from sites if you abuse their space.

Suggest other Articles or Guides

At the end of your article, be sure to suggest other articles that you have written by providing a link. This is a great way to pull traffic from one guide onto another. If you have several articles written about the same game, provide links that help the reader navigate back and forth between your guides.

Earning money by writing game guides can be easy and fun, but it can also be a challenge. With the popularity of online gaming comes lots of competition for search engine ranking. However, if your articles are written properly, you will be able to make a fair amount of extra money easily.

Good article. But I have to admit, the most memorable part of this article was the picture you chose (I laughed when I saw what that picture was.... $!) haha.

Nice job, Brandon. I spend too much time playing the games, though, so little time left to write about them.
