Did you know that you can make beautiful jewellery from junk that you would otherwise throw away.

Earrings made from cardboard and plastic bags.

You will need:

Plastic bags

Cardboard

Scissors

Glue

Paint

Ear wires

Pencil

2 circular things of different sizes to draw around (lids, coins glasses etc)

Needle

Newspaper

Step 1: Draw the larger circular shape on the cardboard, draw the smaller shape on the inside. Cut the larger circle out, pierce a hole in the smaller circle and cut it out. You should be left with a hoop.

Step 2: Cut the plastic bags into strips about ¾ inch wide, dab a little glue onto the end of one strip, attach it to the cardboard. Hold it in place with one hand and wrap the strip around the cardboard with the other. It should go through he hole and every time you wind it, it should only overlap slightly .

Step 3: When one strip comes to an end, dab a little glue on the end and stick it to the cardboard. Attach another strip to the end of the last one, continue this until the cardboard is completely covered.

Step 4: Cover the plastic covered cardboard with a sheet of newspaper, and place on an ironing board.

Step 5: Set your iron to a medium heat, iron the earrings (whilst still covered with the newspaper) Keep the iron moving slowly. Allow to cool slightly before removing the paper. Repeat for the other side.

Step 6: Using a large sewing needle, pierce a hole in the top of the circle.

Step 7: Paint the circles using acrylic paint or nail polish. Allow to dry thoroughly. Attach the ear wire through the hole you made with the needle.
