How to Make Easter Trees and Easter Tree Ornaments

Easy Easter Decoration Crafts

Easter trees are a new tradition that was only recently begun, but has taken the holiday by storm. Every year, shoppers spend big bucks buying Easter trees and paying top dollar for only the best Easter tree ornaments. The good news is that if you are crafty, you can create your own Easter tree and lots of awesome Easter tree ornaments with just a few supplies and a little glue.

To make your Easter tree, you will need one tree branch. When choosing the tree branch, make sure that you do not pick one that has rot inside. If the branch is rotted, your tree will break easily and will not store well. Cutting a fresh branch is probably the best idea.

To prepare your branch for painting, wash it gently in warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly with clean fresh water. If your branch has not been properly cleaned, the paint will not stick to the branch properly and it will chip off.

You can paint your Easter tree using either craft paints or spray paint. Be sure to do any spray painting outdoors. To keep the branch from sticking to anything as it dries. Stick one end of the stick into the ground and spray the branch by walking around it. White is the most popular color for Easter trees, but you can use other pretty pastels such as pink, green, blue, yellow, or violet. The lighter the paint, the better the tree will look.

Next, you will need a base for your tree. The easiest type of base to make is the flower pot vase. Fill a small clay flowerpot with craft clay, or with florist's foam. Push your tree down into the center of the clay. You can use a variety of items to cover this clay base including Easter grass, dried moss, pastel colored jelly beans, and shredded brown paper. If you like, you can also decorate the flower pot vase using soft pastel craft paints.

One of the simplest decorations for your Easter tree is to just tie on pastel colored bows. Tiny bows about one inch wide will give the tree a festive look and cost very little. Tie several on all over the tree in different colors. A large bow around the base of your Easter tree will also look nice.

Candy makes some of the best decorations for your little tree. Just as you can decorate your Christmas tree using candy and popcorn, you can decorate your tiny Easter tree with little edible decorations. Use hot glue to glue a loop of ribbon to the top of a piece of Easter candy and cover the glued area with a small ribbon bow. Foil-wrapped chocolates and candy eggs are great decorations for your little Easter Tree. Even better, if you decide to give your Easter tree as a gift, the recipient can eat it.

Craft stores carry small eggs during the Easter period. Some eggs are plastic while others are wooden. Some very pretty eggs look like real speckled birds' eggs. Plastic and wooden eggs can also be painted using pastel colored acrylic paints. Create a loop at the top of your little egg ornaments in the same way that you did the candy ornaments.

Craft stores sell all kinds of little Easter items that you can use to decorate your Easter tree. Check all around the store for items that are not Easter themed such as metal charms and findings, small wooden shapes, and small religious knickknacks.
